Why are foreign people so selective in making friends?

They always seem to only want to befriend you if you have good connections or are well off financially. Do they think the average american is not worth their time? I'm talking about people who come here on student or work visas.

Many times foreign people feel strange in a different country and aren't familiar with people from here, so they meet people they understand.

As far as people with good connections and are well off financially, many times the foreign people who only want to be around them feel more secure as far as becoming rich and well off financially in this country. "Greedy" ??? Maybe

You know you probable shouldn't stereotype, but maybe because they aren't very confident away from their home culture? Not sure, but I'm pretty certain Foreigners aren't all like that, I mean we're all Foreigners in different countries, so are you like that one holiday, after moving?

because they are NOT here to make friends..they are here to make connections. They are here to make a successful life.

their family is the MOST important ...so that's the way they are

it may not be right...but after coming overseas to escape a war...your perspective shifts

You probably met those who are like that...some are not like that and I do hope you meet those who are nice. On the other hand, it is not necessarily your being average that they dislike...it might be something else.

Racisms? Don't forget that they are here to make money and a life, not so much friends.

its hard, maybe they are not comfortable with the culture, maybe they are just not outgoing, but you are right they do tend to stick together and keep their personal lives separate

I guess they might think we are pigs or something.
