Roger Federer and the upcoming clay season?
What type of results do you expect him to have?
I think he will have a point cushion after Miami, but he has lost a step. Somehow I dont see him defending the 1625 (French 700; Hamburg 500; Monte Carlo 350; Rome 75) points from the clay season. If Nadal can hold his point total he may be #1 before the French.
The question is pretty specific, I did not ask about grass or hardcourt so if you are going to answer try and stick to the topic. What results on clay do you expect Federer to have.
Federer is playing Estoril this year but that event is very small and will not provide many points even if he wins

Federer also has a new tournament he's playing on clay this year. Can't remember the name.
Federer fans are hoping against hope that he can somehow win the French this year. But that seems very optimistic at this stage. Federer is limping right now.
I predict he is going to play Estoril, but he will have to skip one of the other tournaments - either Rome or Monte Carlo. From a points point-of-view, it makes sense to skip Rome. From a strategic point-of-view, It makes more sense to skip Monte Carlo.
If I were FEderer, I'd forget about the number one ranking for a while, and focus on the French. I'd let Nadal think he can catch up so he'll play tournament after tournament and possible run himself down. Then maybe Fed might be in with a chance in Paris.
But you can tell from my tone, I am not confident he is going to hold on to #1 for long.
There are some who believe that Nadal will struggle on clay this year. I disagree. No one can even come close to handlign Rafa on clay. His game is nigh untouchable. Federer on the other hand, when his game is off, even I have a chance.

Federer lost early in Rome last year, so he really only has to defend his Hamburg title and the final of Monte Carlo, whereas Nadal has to win Monte Carlo, Rome, Barcelona, and reach the final of Hamburg just to keep pace. At this point it's too early to tell how Federer will do on the clay, but I wouldn't bet against him doing as well or better as he did in 2007. However, I think Nadal will probably repeat all of his clay titles from last year too. We'll know more about Federer's overall form after Miami, but I suspect that he will enter the French Open as the #1 ranked player.

it is not likely he will, notwithstanding it truly is greater in all hazard that he will never using fact he won't be making deep runs into the French Open lower back, fairly than that he could no longer bodily beat him. There could be a time in some years whilst each participant is previous their primes that the two ought to fulfill interior the midst of the tournament whilst Federer ought to pull the dissatisfied, yet i'm uncertain the two guy will shop playing that long. yet Roger did only beat Nadal final 12 months in Madrid interior the ideal, so he's truthfully able to doing that lower back next season for the duration of the clay run. And as pronounced, he ended Nadal's winning streak on clay in 2007 at Hamburg winning 2-6 6-2 6-0. Hamburg is now no longer interior the clay swing however, so as that they gained't ever play one yet another there lower back.

if thats the case then we will be having a new number 1 in Nadal....in the case of Roger and the upcoming claycourt season, i expect him to prepare early and win at least Hamburg and Monte Carlo or Rome before the French Open....

roger federer cannnot win in clay if nadal is playing. federer is only in wimbledon and U.S, open rafa cannot beat roger on that 2 category..... he's still the champ.... people want federer to lose 'cause he's to good there is no more challenge just like you put the dream team to the olympic no match...... they can beat federer out of luck but not that they're good ... pure luck...

I would love to see him prevail at Roland Garros but 2008 has been a $hitty year for my tennis love Federer. I would just like to see him win at least one grand slam this year.
