  • Could someone answer this Yes/No/Not Given IELTS question?

Can you tell me what the answer should be to the below Yes, No, Not given question?

    Q) Cloaking devices can be used for levitation.

Relevant part of the passage: “So say physicists who believe the same exotic materials used to make cloaking devices could also be used to levitate tiny objects.”

I answered this question as NOT GIVEN however as per the book, the answer should be NO. My argument is that nowhere does it mention that cloaking devices cannot be used for levitation. While it is clear that exotic materials used for making cloaking devices can be used to levitate tiny objects, it is also possible that cloaking devices themselves can be used for this purpose.

Here is what is mentioned as the reason for NO in the book's answer key:

NO because in paragraph 1, it says: 'the same exotic materials used to make cloaking devices'. It is the materials that are used, rather than the cloaking devices themselves.

  • Nadal's point penalty and Djokovic's costly net touch?

    2 questions...

    1) Wasn't the rule changed that the 2nd time violation warning would result in the loss of the 1st serve? If so why was he handed a point penalty directly and not asked to throw in a 2nd serve? Or was that only on the ATP (and possibly WTA) circuit and doesn't apply to majors?

    2) In the crucial point where Djokovic touched the net, what would have happened if he jumped over the net without touching it? Would he have won the point (considering Rafa has absolutely no play on the ball)? I have seen players hit balls and run beyond the net due to their momentum but they were off the court. If Djokovic had some how jumped over the net without touching it, he would have still been on the court but on Rafa's side.

  • Are websites like gotickets.com legal?

A couple of days ago I was looking for tickets for the US Open and was shocked that no tickets were available on the us open site for Sept. 3rd and 4th. I then googled and came across this site gotickets.com. I ordered 2 tickets for Arthur Ashe day session for Sept. 3rd. Each ticket was $119. Then they charged about $54 processing fees and about $15 for shipping. The total was just over $300. I got my tickets today and noticed the face value on both said $67. Not only did they charge me almost double the face value but add to that they charged me processing fees as well. Is it just me or do other people also find it odd that website like these are still up and running (and seems like they are perfectly legal)? Quite clearly it's unfair that websites like these buy tickets in bulk and then over price them so much. Of course I've learnt my lesson and will buy tickets well in advance but I'm quite pissed that in a country like USA, no action is taken against these sites that indulge in scalping.

  • Do you think that Novak is almost guaranteed to leave wimbledon as #1 now?

    Here's my reasoning...

If Novak makes the final, he will get the #1 ranking irrespective of the result in the final. If Novak loses to Tsonga and somehow Rafa defeats Murray, Tsonga with his confidence after today and the fact that he defeated Rafa at Queens will most likely defeat Rafa again. In fact we might even see a repeat of the Australian Open 2008 semi finals if Tsonga and Rafa met. I am a fan of Novak and Rafa but just being objective here.

  • Why is Tennis Channel & ESPN3 not showing women's matches?

I noticed that in Madrid as well. I believe TC showed just the ladies final (or may be semi finals as well) but in Rome also neither of them are showing the ladies matches.

  • Would Lampard have been allowed to take another penalty if he missed the third time?

Replays showed that none of the Chelsea players were in the restricted area but there were WHU players when Lampard kicked the ball. So, would the ref have him take the kick again if he missed the 3rd time?

  • What happens if a batsman makes contact with a ball well above head height?

In the past such balls were called no balls sometimes and wide sometimes. However, now I see the umps call them wides only. So, what happens if a batsman makes contact with a ball that is above head height (which would have been called a wide otherwise) and possibly even leads to the batsman being caught (or being bowled)? Would they then declare it a no ball? If yes, I find it kind of silly...why not just stick with a no ball always?

  • How did they come up with the atrocious grouping?

India gets Ireland and Bangladesh while WI, Aus and SL get each other. How wonderful...having these crappy nations ruin cricket and now one of the good countries will not make it to the next round and we'll have to see one useless cricketing nation in the next round. I would have hoped that they would have had 2 good countries in every group and put the useless countries in each group so that we might not have to bear them in the next round :( Could this be the evil monster BCCI's influence again? I'm Indian btw.

  • What happens if the ball hits the roof?

At some tournament in USA, the roof was fairly low and I saw one guy hit the roof so they replayed the point. However do they have some kind of criteria for replaying the point or do they just replay the point irrespective? For eg., if there's enough indication that the ball was not going to land in the playing area can the ref award the opponent the point? During the recent wimby exhibition, one of the guy's attempted to hit the roof on purpose and one of the commentators mentioned that the roof is not terribly high.

  • Tennis lovers in India...don't you just hate ESPN Star Sports?

They show rome masters for 2 hrs at 4:30 pm and then they show the next live session at 12:00 am. Doesn't that just suck? Even Ten Sports does a better job when showing Tennis.

  • Olive oil question - healthy or less harmful than regular oil?

I was wondering if olive oil was actually good for health or just less harmful than regular cooking oil.

For eg, if something were fried in regular oil, I'd actually squeeze it with a paper napkin to get a little oil out. Would I need to do that for something fried in olive oil also?

  • 2 questions regarding the referral system?

I don't know if other people have thought of such a thing happening but it's a definite possibility especially with guys like Bucknor around.

    Consider this:

A spin bowler bowls a flighted delivery and is called for over stepping the crease, the batsman hears the calls and goes for a crazy shot (since the bowler with the flighted delivery gave him plenty of time), he gets bowled (or caught or gets plumb lbw or is stumped). Since the ball is a no ball the umpire says not out, however one team mate of the bowler notices that the bowler did not overstep and suggests to the captain to refer the decision. On the replay, the bowlers foot is fine (part of it is behind the line).

What happens? It would sure be unfair to give the batsman out.

    Also consider this scenario:

A bowler oversteps but the umpire does not call no ball. The batsman gets out however the non striker notices the bowler did overstep. Can he recommend to his departing team mate to challenge or is the call to be made by the batsman and batsman alone only without any outside influence?

  • Federer's back hand slice shot?

Would I be correct in saying that federer doesn't play the slice shot? His slice shots appear to be more like drop shots that he hits much deeper into the opponents court. Also, most players that play the slice shot have their racquets almost parallel (like 20-30 deg) to the surface however fed's racquet seems to be almost perpendicular. Or is the drop shot also considered a slice?

  • How many sets would the final have had Rafa had a easier semi final?

Do you think the final would have been shorter (with the victor being Rafa only) if Rafa had a much easier victory against Verdasco (say in 2.5 hrs or so)? If you have Star Sports, even Vijay Amritraj said if Rafa had a easier semi final, he might have won the final in straight sets also. Do you agree?

  • What was the problem with the 2nd last point?

Why was federer arguing with the chair umpire? Did he want the ball to be called out since some idiot (obviously a fed fan) from the crowd shouted out or did he want the point to be replayed (I believe he was no where close to the ball)? He could have challenged it very well if he thought it was out.

  • How does Kooyong classic work?

Is it like 2 groups with 4 players each with the top player from each grp playing in the final? If yes then from watching the first 2 days I suppose the 2 groups were

    1: moya, fed, cilic, verdasco

    2: ljubicic, baghdatis, gonzalez, wawrinka

For fri, however, I see that ljubicic is playing moya and bagh vs cilic and no fed and verdasco (not fed vs verdasco). The utterly useless kooyong classic website doesn't seem to have any info also on how this works.

  • Novak's no longer using a wilson racquet. Were you aware of this?

I saw some of his pics on yahoo tennis yest and was shocked to see him using a white head racquet. Just wondering if I'm the only person who noticed this yesterday or are there other people also who were not aware of this. I hope it doesn't adversely affect his play.

  • Cricket followers: Wouldn't hot spot be a better choice for the challenge system in Tennis?

I don't know how exactly it works, but since it uses the heat produced for the spot left by the ball, don't you think it would be more accurate than relying on the cameras picking up the exact spot where the ball hits?

  • Asad Rauf Visa problems?

This is more a visa question than a cricket question but since it applies to a cricket umpire, I'm posting it here. Does India have city specific visas as well?

  • Why does firefox every now and then discard my login details for various sites?

I've started using firefox as my main browser just recently. I select the option to remember my username and security questions on most sites like my bank, credit card and even torrent sites. However every now and then firefox will just discard all this info so the next time I visit, I need to reenter my login, security question, etc. It's kind of getting annoying. I never faced such problems with IE. I don't quite know which setting to look for or is this a "feature" of firefox to discard all logins every now and then and give you no option of having any contol over it?
