What happens if the ball hits the roof?

At some tournament in USA, the roof was fairly low and I saw one guy hit the roof so they replayed the point. However do they have some kind of criteria for replaying the point or do they just replay the point irrespective? For eg., if there's enough indication that the ball was not going to land in the playing area can the ref award the opponent the point? During the recent wimby exhibition, one of the guy's attempted to hit the roof on purpose and one of the commentators mentioned that the roof is not terribly high.

Update:

Sorry for not clarifying...yes I did mean closed roof. It's weird you'll are saying the person who hits the ball on the roof loses. I'm quite sure, in the instance I referred to above, they did replay the point. But the roof there was much lower than normal, so may be that's why they replayed the point.

If you mean playing under a closed roof, then I never seen that before and dont know what happens if someone hits it and the ball lands back inside, would be pretty funny though.

Yeah you lose the point if it toouches the roof in an indoor court.
