Nadal's point penalty and Djokovic's costly net touch?

2 questions...

1) Wasn't the rule changed that the 2nd time violation warning would result in the loss of the 1st serve? If so why was he handed a point penalty directly and not asked to throw in a 2nd serve? Or was that only on the ATP (and possibly WTA) circuit and doesn't apply to majors?

2) In the crucial point where Djokovic touched the net, what would have happened if he jumped over the net without touching it? Would he have won the point (considering Rafa has absolutely no play on the ball)? I have seen players hit balls and run beyond the net due to their momentum but they were off the court. If Djokovic had some how jumped over the net without touching it, he would have still been on the court but on Rafa's side.

Update:

ణexi - RETIRED: I'm pretty sure I have seen people hit balls and their momentum would carry them into their opposition's side before the point was over. But like I mentioned, that was off the court. If Novak had to jump over, he would have still been on the court.

Verulam: I'm almost 100% certain Rafa did get a warning in an earlier set. The point penalty was for doing it a second time. But, my confusion is that I thought the rule had been changed to warn the player the first time and if they repeated it again, they would lose their first serve and would have to throw in a second serve.

I didn't watch the match so I can only answer the 2nd question:

No, Djokovic would not have won the point had he jumped over the net. Why? Because the point was not over. The point wouldn't have officially been over until the ball bounced TWICE. Until then, Nadal still technically had a chance to get the ball back. If Novak touched the net after the ball bounced twice it would have been okay. If he jumped over the net after the ball bounced twice that would have been okay, too, but that would also be pretty bad sportsmanship.

Also** Your follow-through may cross the net as long as your racquet does not touch the net and if you make contact while the ball is inside your half of the court. If you hit the ball (like a volley) before it reaches your side of the court, you automatically lose the point.

    1. I too was surprised that Nadal got a direct penalty with his delayed serve, no warning, and yet Djok.was given a warning. To my eyes that was incorrect.

    2. This has been answered better than I can already here.
