Have computer problem? i have windows xp. urgent problem i run a business. see detail below?
Well whenever i start my PC it loads everything but after a few seconds of start everything goes blank and only thing remains is wallpaper and mouse. I don't see start status bar or icons. When i do the ctrl, alt, delete thing i do see task manager but nothng else comes up. So in task manager I go in run and type explorer.exe and it fires up the icons and start bar but just one time but after restart I have to do the same thing again. I have done a virus scan and it deleted a lot of virus from my computer but still the problem remain when I do the defrag thing it tells me “some problem with drive run disk check”.
So what should I do even in the safe mode there is the same problem. I know that my computer has been infected. How to get out of this?? I do not want to reinstall windows xp or format as I have lot of data. And cannot back up all the important data.
10 points if problem gets solved.

If nothing you found here is working, try doing this. Very simple to do. Sorry about your luck! Did you try system restore? If you want to go back to when you had your comp almost new, you must first save any important files ( files that you use ) to a CD or floppy.... in Windows XP......go to start, all programs, accessories ( second column ), system tools, system restore ( bottom, right column )
close all other windows, before using this. Then Restore to an earlier date. After your done, restart your ( comp. ) windows. Good luck!

i don't know the setuation comletely but for now i think either it is coused by the operating system you need to put all you data in a safe place out side your hard drive (may be an external hard drive ) and make F disk and format again and intall a fresh version of windows
the second possible reason is the hard drive or Ram but i think the OS is the reason
GOOD LUCK

ok what you are going through is simple, windows is not loading explorer.exe as your shell , or let's say environment, you can do it in few different way, easy way, try recreating user profile, you can do that by login as admin and go to documents and settings and when you see a folder with your user name , rename it to username.old and restart you PC and login again, btw, is this PC working as part of a network with a login that is verified by a domain controller?
one more thing, to get explorer.exe to load. you need to add it in registery as shell, i think its in HKLM\software\microsoft\windows NT\currentversion\winlogon
would be great if you can post more details
and finally i agree with the post that recommended running chkdsk, you might have to do that repeatedly on startup to clear any drive errors.
good luck

Before you start buying a new sound card and discover later on that you wasted money as it wasn't the sound card that went bad after all, I would suggest that you do a clean install of the OS and applications. If you don't have an installer disc, order one from Dell. You should always have one nearby anyway.

Try booting up your computer in "safe mode" by repeatitly pressing F8 as your computer first starts up (before the windows logo appears). Try safe mode and directory services.
Also, try a system restore under start > all programs > accesseries > system tools > system restore.
Good luck.

It seems like explorer.exe isn't starting with the OS. Try manually adding it to the startup list through the registry or a program that allows you to edit startup programs.

Run your computer in safemode with command prompt and type on c:\chkdsk /r it will repair your windows for errors
you can also do one thing make a shortcut explorer.exe and paste it in startup menu which is in strat->all programs->startup right click on it and click on find target then paste your explorer.exe shortcut overthere then it will show you your desktop every time.

get ccleaner it will get the junk oot of your registry
get AVG it will get even more junk out of your machine
it has a blacklist, so if a virus gets a "name change" it still recognizes it and quarantines it for you
then you can safely delete it with extreme prejudice
