Royal Visit to UWI Highlights Lingering Colonialism....agree or disagee??
The Prince of Wales and his wife are in Trinidad. Below is a clip I pasted from Trinicenter.com. What are your thoughts posse?
"Yesterday we witnessed children being encouraged by their teachers to touch the royals, seemingly without knowledge of Britain's historical legacy, or even with their complicity in the mass-murder of millions in recent history. Certainly, this is an indictment against the teachers (among others) who refuse to challenge bogus history and continue to feed young minds with a self-debasing concept of history. "

Oh gosh, Oh gosh gurl. GOD SAVE THE QUEEN!!!!
But if yuh going dey yuh have to go all the way. Now I love the Brits, but I aint chuppid about what they have done.
The Royal family are decendance from Germany, yes Germany. There was a time that German clans made their way over to the UK and totally did their t'ing and such as have diluted the true English man.
Now we complain about that, but do you know that the Moores controlled Europe for over 800 years. Yes Black folks controlled Europe and beyond....
So leh we not accept what we learn in the little West Indian book, but accept that our children now have access to vast knowledge via the internet, and although they dey trying to touch celebs I could bet yuh some ah them know more about the situation than yuh give them.....

Good or bad, our country would not be the same had it not been for Colonialism. That does not mean that I condone the actions or policies (past or present) of the British government but the callalloo country that we all love so much would never had come to be without the Brits!
Encouraging the students to touch the royals...maybe a bit much, but they will learn soon enough what the facts are. I remember my history classes in secondary school more than any others just because my teachers set us straight about our heritage and shocked the cr*p out of us all!
But history is history and we should be looking at the future of our country and how to fix our many, many problems rather than dwelling on the past. Unhealthy and unproductive.

When I heard that Prince Charles and his wife were visiting Trinidad, I wondered why? What was their purpose for this visit. And to this day, I still don't know why they visited.
I think their visit highlights the fact that colonial is not lingering, its still present in various forms but for them to "pat themselves on the back". To see how the country progressed. Whether we like to admit it or not, we still have British elements much alive in our culture e.g. Parliament - which is modeled after the British.
I don't see anything wrong with children wanting to touch the royals hand- it could for the intellectuals among us that the need for British assistance in our affairs will always continue, but for children, its a once in a lifetime, to see the Prince... a fascination I guess.

I think world has been changed enough that we may now forget the bitter reality of past. No doubt that the Royal Family of Great Briton dipped their hands with the blood of million of people in the last century including our land (Indian sub continent) but we should look forward to think about everybody in this world on the parameters of humanity and love…as practically depicted by my great hero Nelson Mandela.

I agree !!
It's disgusting how Trinidadians are behaving. They seem to be over-awed by what exactly ?
And it is true, most Trinidadian teachers don't have an in depth understanding and knowledge of the subjects they teach.
Imagine, I had to sit in classes for years to listen the people who I had more knowlegde than. I was terrible !!

to me when i heard the prince and duchess were visitin our beloved republic i was wondering for what purpose????
is not tht i doh care is jus tht to me is nothin big
but this is not lingering colonialism, but them relishing and savoring what they think was all their handiwork. dont get me wrong, our forefathers built bits and pieces of our own from their influence. however we changed and follow our own as well. so no its not colonialism
we should not be thinking of their visit negatively though. we have to concentrate on makin trinbago better not on visits from the royals
