Well, I can actually explain it ...... emotions are energy that is in motion in our bodies ...... whether you are being positive or negative, this energy combines to create your emotions ....... so the more emotional you get for a long period of time, the more you are using the energy up ....... and the more energy you use, the more tired your body can get ...... thus, that is why emotions are so exhausting ....... maybe it's the limbic system there close to the brainstem ..
triggers of adrenaline can *rush* the body-mechanisms into overdrive (with nowhere to go) and create reaction without release ... and exhaustion is the price we pay
citing:
Brain science contributes an understanding of where our emotions come from within our brain. They emerge from our limbic system. This is a part of our brain we share with all mammals, so it is sometimes called the dog brain
snip
The limbic system has a memory completely separate from the memory in our more recently evolved human brain, the neocortex. In our neocortex we learn multiplication tables and the names of streets and people. The limbic system has an emotional filing system, indexing memories by their value for future experience. While the neocortex forgets, the limbic system does not. So in a real sense, elephants never forget.

Emotions run down your spine, up your aorta and into your brain.
They then start all over again.
While in the brain, these emotions race around banging into each other creating an Adrenalin rush. When the rush is over, it may start again, if your emotions are still running amok. This makes your brain very tired. Mental fatigue results, which tells your body it is also tired.
Merry go round mental fatigue.
I sometimes call it, being weary.

Because the mental and physical are very closely aligned Lisa - one affects the other. For eg. stress, which is to do with the emotions, can cause an eruption of skin complaints and other physical illnesses. So it follows that emotions, to do with stress, exhaust us.

Would emotions be worth having and going through if they weren't?
I don't think so. The ups and downs are all the great part of rolling along this little journey we all take.

It takes a LOT of energy to hassle, and fuss, and worry, and cry. The brain is a curious thing. But, it takes hardly any energy to love...love gives us energy!

I am no doctor but I think it is all the chemicals different glands flood the body with, adrenalin is one.
