My camcorder won't get charged?

I place it on the base, but the battery won;t get charged. If i put the direct cable to the camera it does turn on, but as soon as I disconnect it turns off. It's a really new camera.

It is a sony handy-cam DCR-HC48.

I stored it for a couple of weeks and still had some battery life. Please HELP

Update:

the cable for the charger does work because when i connect the camera directly to the plug it does turn on.

Update 2:

The first time i charged it it went fine. The second time as well. I charged just like the instructions said. I was suppoused to not atore the camera until the battery was empty, but i didn't have anything else to tape

Did you read the instructions before charging for the first time? Sometimes there are specific instructions for a new battery. Perhaps you should take a look and see if you got this wrong. You might have to buy a new battery, but at least you'll know what to do next time.

The same happened to me and I missed a wedding! Grrr

The battery charger had a loose connection. It was repaired free of charge as it was under guarantee. (The repairman just had to solder a connection) Done in a day as well. Thankfully the camcorder had no problems.

    Good luck.

if its new,i would take it back, and swap it for another one,as that shouldnt be happening,so it must be the base thats not working correctly,

i dont know much about camcorders, just wot av heard, but like most things, your meant too remove battery,if not being used for agaes,as can leak,i dont know if thats the same with camcorders though,i suggest you get in touch with sony and see wot your doing wrong
