Candy/ Caramel Apple Station at wedding? Instead of a chocolate station?
My fiance and I thought it would be cute for our fall wedding to have a caramel/ candy apple station where our guests could choose toppings to have put on their "gourmet" apples. We would have an "Apple-tender" to make the apples for our guests. We were thinking of toppings like different kinds of chocolates and nuts, etc. What do you think? I've asked a few of my bridesmaids and they loved the idea. At the end of the night the guests would pick up their apples, which would be wrapped in a colorful celophane bag with a ribbon..
Please no rude answers.. But does this sound like a fun idea?
Lydia- If you had read the whole decription I said that there would be someone on Staff making the apples for everyone.
Not giving any thumbs down since I did ask for everyone's opinions. But thank you everyone for liking the idea so much. We just thought that it would be unique.

Actually, that idea is absolutely adorable! Probably one of the best I've seen on Y!A! I've heard of people having candy/caramel apples as favors at their weddings, but actually having a station where people make the apples is a very good idea!

I love that idea! We're doing carmel apples that I am making a few days in advance with all different toppings. They'll already be packaged in the celophane and they can choose which kind they'd like. The end results are so fun, I just did a trial run and they turned out so pretty!

I love this idea and it's a great favor for a fall wedding.
I know you mentioned that you will have someone man the station, but I do think it can still get a little messy. Personally, I would much rather just have the apples already made and wrapped and sitting at each place setting.

I think it sounds amazing! Really cute and different from what everyone else is doing.
My only concern is whether your reception venue allows it. Have you asked them? If the person making them is licensed and insured to do this, then they shouldn't have a problem with it, but if you are just having a friend or relative doing it, they may not allow it.
I know it sounds horrible, but if one of the little kids at the reception knocks over a pot of hot caramel on himself, does the vendor doing the apples have liability insurance to pay for medical costs? If not, the reception venue may be liable because it happened on their property. If the family of the injured child sues the reception venue, they may turn around and sue you or your friend who was making the apples. Again, it's a horrible idea that something like this would happen at your wedding, but make sure all your bases are covered.
If this is a person who does this for a business, just ask if he/she has liability insurance. If so, PLEASE EMAIL ME and let me know if you are in the Chicago area. I work for a restaurant that does weddings, and I would love to be able to suggest this to people looking for unique ideas.

I think the idea is nice, but I foree alot of your guests leaving the apples behind once the evening is over. I know that every time I attend a wedding, the tables are littered with the favors guests just left behind. I can see this easily happening with the apples, which would be a real shame, considering the effort and cost it would require to pull it off. Plus, many guests really wouldn't want a candy apple (myself excluded-I'd love one)...it just seems like a great idea on paper, but one that would be alot of trouble in practice.

I like the idea. Why not have apples cut up already so that guests can have some at the wedding. I know I would rather have a taste while I'm there. People may not want to bring it home.

Your idea is one of the most unique and creative wedding ideas I've heard in a while! Especially because the guests get to take something home with them as well - perfect!!
