I didn't work outside the home in 2007, would I be eligible for stimulus rebate payment?
I am a stay at home mom and graduate student. I worked in 2006 so filed taxes for that year. I didn't work outside the home at all in 2007 so didn't bother filing income tax (as there is nothing to report). Someone told me that they thought I could still be eligible for the stimulus plan rebate. Does anyone know?

If you do not have $3,000 in "qualifying income" - which includes wages, Social Security, and VA Disability - you will be ineligible for the rebate, but you may still benefit under the plan.
While the rebate depends on your 2007 status and income, it is actually a rebate toward your 2008 taxes. According to the Economic Stimulus Act of 2008, taxes would be cut in 2008 from 10 percent to zero percent on the first $6,000 dollars of taxable income for individual taxpayers.
So if you have taxable income in 2008, you will see a tax cut when you file in 2009.

You need at least $3000 of income from a job, ssa benefits or veterans benefits. If you have none of these, you aren't eligible UNLESS you file a joint return with your spouse and he worked.
If you work in 2008, you will get a second chance at the money when you file.
