Why do people ask for stars on YA?

And what do they even do for you?

I agree with the two answers above. It's fun to get stars on your Qs.

But I suppose that stars should be awarded, and not solicited.

The stars don't do a thing - have no points - no redeeming value - but some people think they do. So, just go with the flow and if you like a question, give it a star. You can always remove them later.

They probably just want something to brag about or maybe they think someday you can "cash" them in for merchandise. They don't do a lot for me, yet it is FUN to receive them.

    Maybe they are just bored?
