What is wrong with my Dog?? She eats diapers, garbage and dead rodents instead of the premium food I buy her!?
One day my dog brought a diaper home, we couldn't figure out where she got it. We dumped it and scolded her, but shes brought a couple more since then. My aunt lives to the north of my mom's house just through the woods. I was at my aunt's last night and she said shes always chasing my dog away from her garbage cans (she has babies/diapers).
My dog has been on a steady diet of Canidae wet and dry dog food since she was a small pup, but we have recently started feeding Fromm too - she was getting bored of just Candiae. She eats 1.5 cans a day, with kibble. Canidae costs me $1.99 a can, and Fromm costs me $2.99 a can, but its healthy (I lost my best dog to Iams during the food recall).
She also brings home dead mice & birds. What can I do to make her stop with the garbage and rodents? She brought EIGHT diapers home last night and made a mess of my yard. She would rather eat garbage then her food, and my mom has now banned her from her house because she brought home a mouse. HELP!!!
She's not outside all the time, 80% of her time is indoors or out on a leash with us. I'm not bragging about the food, I'm just never going to let crappy dog food be responsible for my best friends death again. Chaining her up will only make her lonely and depressed, especially if my sister's dogs are running around playing with the kids, etc.
Obviously some of the people that post in this thread aren't loving pet owners.
Thanks for your concern over the food, I have been reading labels like crazy since the dog food recall, and that Canidae and Fromm stuff is really good, but you can only get it at one tiny shop around here, maybe if it was more readily available it wouldn't be so much. The new Beneful tubs are 1.99 at Walmart though, so I don't know. My brother wanted to eat some of the dogs Fromm one day when he got a whiff of it, and I still wouldn't trust him if there was nothing else in the house - no telling what teenagers will eat, let alone puppies.
I wish she was still on her kibble-only diet, but my mom successfully ruined that one for us. Oh well.

Don't worry. My dog sometimes digs holes out of the fence and takes things from the neighbours compost. And once she killed a bunny. Dogs need to be monitored. I fill in any holes she starts. Also, she's a piglet. Seriously, it takes her 10 seconds to eat a cup of kibble. You could try changing to a kibble only diet and buy special kibble, like suff you can ony get from the vet, or even just Beniful or something. Watch them when they eat and keep an eye on them in the yard. You could also take her to the vet to see what the vet thinks, and they could recommend something better than I could. you know, you don't have to buy really expensive stuff to keep your dog healthy. Don't get me wrong, healthy food often IS expensive, but sometimes it's just partly because they CAN make it that expensive. For profit. You should look in the ingredients before buying.
Now, I'm not going to tell you how to control your dog, but I feed mine only kibbles, about 2 cups a day. She's fine! I got a fenced yard, and wherever she digs holes I put those plastic fences that just stick into the ground. I put an elastic around the knobs near the garbage can.
Who has a baby near your place? Ask them to monitor their garbage, since you suspect that your dog is getting diapers from them. Also, how is your dog even accessing diapers? Does she run freely around the neighbourhood???
Good luck!

There's nothing wrong with what you are feeding her so long as you're giving her the recommended amounts. You can switch to only kibble any time if you want. The dog may be unhappy but she wont starve herself and will eat.
The running loose issue is actually the worst. You need to confine your dog! Either put up a fence or use a tie out line. They make the tie outs in many lengths so she wont run out of room to run. Or would you rather her rummage through garbage (who knows what she's eaten already... poison, leftover food that could hurt her...) or get hit by a car?
Once you restrict her from wandering you shouldn't have garbage problems and it should cut down on the small animals.
Good Luck!

I ate some dog food once for a bet. Didn't do me any harm, and it was a quick way of earning £10. This was in the 1980s though, when £10 was a lot of money. These days, allowing for inflation, I'd want at least five times that before I eat another tin!

The problem with your dog is that it is an animal, and animals that run loose eat whatever they can find to survive. That's a basic inborn instinct.
Why is your dog running around loose anyway??? Stop bragging about feeding your dog quality food, and spend some money to buy a chain to tie her up with if you can't think of a better way to confine her outside, and then bring her inside to be your pet. If you leave her outside ALL the time, she will continue to act uncivilized. If it keeps running loose like a wild animal it will act like a wild animal and keep eating garbage, rodents and diapers. By the way, dogs just love poop. The stinkier an item, the more they like it.
I know what I'd be doing if a loose dog was getting into my garbage and making a pest of itself...... ASPCA

Quit acting helpless and irresponsible then, and DO something with the 20% of the time she is not indoors or on a leash.
