My brother is separating from his wife and she holds the money from the house sale in her bank account?

They have sold their house and are in rented accommodation at present. The money from the sale of their home is in her bank account and she is not making any effort to put this money into their shared account or put half into his I am afraid that before they divorce etc she will have spent the money or hidden it somewhere what can he do, please help, thanks

It depends. If you agree on how to spend your money and can work together towards one goal that's great and ideal in my opinion. However I have known couples who were very divided on how life should be lived. One is a 'live for the moment and spend all you got' kind of person. The other one is 'save for tomorrow and plan' kind of person. If I was the saver I would have a big problem with my spouse pis sin g away all my earnings and savings. I would prefer to have my own bank account. These marriages are more likely to break up and people go their own way. There are however exceptions, like my in-laws who live separate financial lives and have been married for 40 years.

Not much anyone can do on yahoo, should have had foresight and had the money from the sale paid into the shared account

this woman may think she's slick...but she isn't. so she blows the money. then she is ordered to repay. she can't repay. then he gets a judgement against her. then she can never buy anything on credit in her name...no house, no car, no mastercard, maybe can't even rent an apartment.

i'm sure she'll have a nice, wonderfully marginal life.

In some states like Az even if his name is not on it it is legal for the male to take all her $ so that is not a good solutions - tell her to get a safe.

Its easy to show the amount when its time to divide everything. Something like that can't be hidden -- its public record! If she takes more than she should, she'll have to pay it back.

Why were the funds not dispersed evenly during escrow? Just curious. That's really not the norm unless he agreed to that.

Tell him to get to a lawyer and get a freeze on that account first thing tomorrow morning!

if she blows the money, the court wil require her to split the assets at time of seperation..and she will end up paying oyur brother back......if his wife is like this, i would go ahead and file for divorce...doesnt sound like he would want ot reconcile to me

He should talk to his solicitor - but if she does try to squirrel it away or spend it, he's still entitled to his share. Tell him to get it sorted sooner rather than later.
