Is it just Catholics that believe.......?

that Christianity is "not the only way" to God?

I just read this absurd statement and have heard it countless times from Catholics. Where does this theology come from?

    *Is Catholic*

the theology comes from the philosophy of modernism and other false teachings of scripture. It also comes from not understanding what the Church taught (as well as the general vague nature of Vatican II and its ability to be manipulated by those that wish to distort the uniqueness of Christ).

The Church does teach that Christ is the ONLY way to God. Read Dominus Iesus which is rather good on this subject.

All other religions contain aspects that lead to Christ and thus the Church. They are not salvific in it of themselves. You can say that other religions are "ways to God" but only if you understand that to get to God you have to first come to Christ.

It is important to understand that the Church contains the fullness of salvation, where as other organizations do not. It is possible for one who does not have the fullness of salvation to be saved, just as it is possible for one who is in the Church not to be saved.

    OK, to explain again....

Christ came to redeem us from our sins. He opened the gates of Heaven. Those who come to know Him, love Him, and serve Him may attain eternal life.

However, what of those souls, who throughout time, have no way to hear of Him and His marvelous love for us? Are they condemned to damnation?

We believe in the MERCY of God. That he has provided signs and wonders in all cultures and times that point to Him and the life He would have us lead. Certainly, that message is perfected in Christ; we make no claims otherwise. But if a soul has not had the temporal advantage of the Christian life explained to them, we believe that the merciful God will evaluate each soul based on the Truth which it came to know and follow.

None of that would be possible without Christ and His sacrificial life.

Christ is the only way to God but it doesn't mean that everyone who come to heaven would know him by name.

God won't give a theology exam for the entrance of heaven.

Rather He will say "What you did to one of the least you did it to me."

The last Pope said that Jews could go to Heaven due to their covenant with God. The new Pope says that *only* Catholics can go to heaven (or at least he implied it when he said that the Catholic Church is the only True Church).

The church teaches that Jesus is the Way the Truth and the Life.

But well, we also believe in His Unlimited Fountain of Mercy. Otherwise, well, no one would get to heaven would they?

The pope said that the Catholic church is the one true church so I don't know who you have been talking to.
