Math & Science in Eng. Do you agree or not with removing this???

I certainly DO NOT agree. We should let it be there. Forever. We baru try few years la! Tapi I think it's good! Ok, so I know, I'm a Malay and must not forget my heritage, use the Malay langue instead...blah, blah...BUT! The problem here is that, if you're not trained with English from kecik, it'll be too hard to be good in Eng when besarla...I myself can't count how many of the students in ma school who aree such ret@rds in eng. And most of them are malays....camne nk maju klu x taw Eng?x kn nk dok dlm mlesia je...x nk ade kaitan dgn dunia lwar pon...Especially in difficult subjects like M&S. "Mlento buloh biarla dari rbongnye..."

*Don't ckp pasal I guna bhs rojak. It has nothing to do w/this issue...

Yuck, why Yahoo suggested me putting this in LGBT?

Update:

Okay, I accept opposing opinions...I'm not mad...just wanna hear what YAM are sayin

Update 2:

ma last year's science teacher ade 'diploma mikrobiologi' dr USM agaknye...and her English...well...bad. I knew it first when she pronounced receptors as ree-sap-thors, not thers. Even teachers need to be cultivated...bkn nk lpekn mothers tongue ye...

Update 3:

btw, fyi, am 15

Update 4:

but Japan, France...etc developED years ago. Now they're NOT called developING countries TODAY but developED countries. they developed when english or any other langue were NOT even internationally used. In fact, it was like there was even no intern langue! and now, bila diorg dh ada kuasa, duit, "sape nk kwn dgn dia, ikot cara dia"!

Malaysia is a rapidly developING country. So, kalau nk martabatkn BM, kenalah naikkan malaysia dulu!tp skrg dh ssh,x mcm dulu! And nowadays, look at the belias.MALAY belias.dok lepak2 kt malls, kalau blaja pandai x pe la!ni report kad sorok,Eng fail....blah,blah..

I myself live in a hostel. A skola AGAMA hostel.bila agama, mestila 99.9999% melayu. So, from wat I can see, only 20% of the students are good in Eng. tiap2 tahun sjak I form 1(2006),kalau ade ape2 activities kaitan ngan eng,mst muka sama je...tp muka2 yg bagusla!yg len sume x pandai.no offence ye kalauy ade my schoolmates here!ke teachers ke...

Update 5:

Asek org same je tiap2 tahun. debate org sama, speech sama, spelling bee pon org sama juga!!!saya waktu form2(2007) ngan tahun ni form3 english society.pas2,muka2 members nye pon sama mcm thn lepas.cuma yg form5 dh x de,tambah form1 yg pandai eng. in ma school, we also learn arabic.but arabic x yah ckpla...i myself x bgus arabic.but at least i kno ENG!yg tau arabic tanta 2% je.ENG x tau, Arabic x tau...mcm mane ni???

Update 6:

i HAVE tried to guide them BUT they x nak dgar!dh pnat dh.mcm you ckpla yg answerer bwh tu...:"they don't actually 'learn'...".diorg slalo teacher suroh wat kerja, tanye org yg tau.mintak jwpn SAHAJA.so i'll give them the answer and explain to them but they will say somethin like:"oh,hmm, okayla...whateva..."

Update 7:

PANJANGNYE!!!!!

Update 8:

more:

wow, this is getting interesting.good everyone!especially the first answerer for always checking for any 'edits' i made.huhu...

yes, i agree with the answerer who said bout children in rural areas only get their education from their teachers,no tuitions, internets, libraries(klu ade pon yg library/inet brgerak 2 yg dtg skali sbulan)

i thinkla...should be like this:from ma xperience, i was bad in english(as far as i could remember was 5).but ma parents letak astro kat rumah.so i watched cartoon network and i loved watching dexter's lab(*doesn't have anythin to do w/this) but i only watched.i didnt even undersand what they were sayin.so i kept on hearing and at that time,ma mom sent me to the 'smart readers' class.(lbih kurang mcm Kumon,...etc).I learnt from the smart reader teacher new words and then practice it when watching the cartoons...

Update 9:

So, what i'm trying to say here is that:

1) The gov. cubala cari ways to teach children or should I say, 'Englishfy'(not the culture, but the language, don't get me wrong!) children from pre-k. No, don't too paksa them. Yes, I know they're just kids but pepatah Melayu ada kata: "Melentur buluh biarlah dari rebungnya".

2) Send the existing-teachers to kursus2 English and start it from the cuti sekolah akhir tahun(National holidays excluded) and until the

cuti akhir tahun next year. Yes, I can hear the teachers are saying: "WTH??! Do you ever know how much a teacher's job is while we are only paid sikit?". I didn't mean EVERYDAY. Maybe kalau ada cuti sekolah panjang, sambung kursusnya. Give the teachers homeworks and ask for the homeworks in the next session. By this, teachers tak adalah dah pergi kursus sekali, lepas seminggu, dah tak practice English pun dah sampai la end of the year....

And second, make syarats/ ujians for teachers-wannabes. Buatlah ujian English. Paksa diorang!

Update 10:

FYI everyone, I'm not a RACIST!!!

Update 11:

And guyz, if you don't know some of our parents, grandparents learnt these subjects in English. And most of them are great people today. So, if THEY CAN do it why not us? We lagila senang nak belajar! Not like them!

Dengan curfewla...pe la...pelita minyak tanah, pergi sekolah takut kena bunuh jepun...blah, blah...but what about US NOWADAYS? Dgn internetnye, TV, blaja guna projectors la,buku blambak...diorg x de dulu bnd2 like these! but they could do it!

I agree, bcoz, our national language is Malay, if not in classes, when are we going to use it?? buat malu je pakai bahasa penjajah.. as a nation that has got maruah, they shud use their national language most of the time, unless if situation doesnt permit(eg YAM, got 2 qns removed bcoz of using Malay language!!) Bahasa boleh blaja lah.. just send them to UK, when at first they are really bad at english, when they graduate, they wud be fine.. and alternatives are using ONLY english in english classes after form 1, or have 2 weeks for speaking english, the other 2 weeks, our national language.. BTW, i think bahasa rojak is really part of the Malays' heritage.. last time, Melaka was a port, therefore, many people who spoke many different languages went there to trade, and they had to use rojak language to communicate.. of course, thats only an alasan I use to make it innocent for me to use rojak..

    Edit

BTW, it is not impossible for a country to be developed if they dun use english.. look at Japan, China, France, and many more.. and know this, the Japanese's english sounds funnier than ur teacher's english!!

Fine, but china is still a developing country.. and India too(no fair, its soo easy for them to learn english due to their frequency.. its near english's)

The same thing happened at my school, but it really is the school's fault.. they should have made it such that everyone can learn english, bsides, its possible that in the next 20 yrs, there will be another international language.. And u see, even if english and science is taught in english, it doesnt change the fact that those who are not good with english will remain bad at it, unless if they start paying attention in english class( I took O levels, so, everything was in english, yet, there was some students in my class who still spoke bad english)

Huhu.. we also got arabic, but students kept complaining that they will only forget it unless if they speak only arabic in arabic class, but its impossibe, smuorang lain standard.. so, smuorang pon kecundang

BTW, what does it relate to belia hanging out?? Its not about using Bahasa, seriously, its just attitude problem..

If they want the nations to advance, follow the international trend!

In the passed 20 years, the world's main language is English, and it will persist in the foreseable future.

They made a totally wrong move to surpress English and Mandarin in the past just because of the so-called 'nationalism' that do more harm to the nation than good.

Now, even USA, UK ... are focusing on learning Mandarin as it will soon be one of the most powerful language along with English.

While other advance countries are having a vision at least 20 years further than us, here we are still talking about whether to correct the mistake made 20 years back ---> whether to focus on English?!

Insist not to learn English and Mandarin? Don't learn it then!

    edit : ...........

For your info, China and France are both developed countries who have VETO power in the United Nations. China is the emerging superpower that can threaten USA.

It must be removed. The government should strenghten teaching of english language rather than use english for taching other subjects. There is a saying that the best language for studying Math & Science is in our own Mother Language. In fact, such doings are degrading Malay language as the DBP mentioned somehow.Yes,English is very important, and it is better to study ENGLISH itself rather than study other subjects in English.

i do not agree with removing it now, because they already start the system, just continue.. if they change it now, the student will get confused, pening2, i feel so pity for primary and secondary student

i'm one of the persons that do not agree with this system when first time it was introduced..they just do the revolution (rapidly) without consider many things like students in the remote area and poor students. most of this students unable to get extra classes or tuition, just get all the knowledge exactly from teacher in school. and to tell you the truth most of teachers also got 'culture shock' with this system. that's why my younger bro said that his mathematic's teacher used the text book in english language but teach and speak in malay. so, how come the students will understand.

i know that this system is good because most of mathematic and science's terms already in english language, but they can't apply it rapidly, first, train the teachers properly how to speak in english and how to attract the students to be interested and understand

i remembered my first class in uni,i was dumbfounded cos i couldn't understand wth the lecturer was teaching even though it was just basic calculus, chem, bio, etc when it was all just simple and basic stuff i've known already..only the terms were different..at first,it was like learning a whole new subject haha..then we all got used to it..too bad most of my classmates just memorized and hafal without actually 'learning' but i guess this is what happens in the exams here

don't forget, maths and science was originally taught in english during my parents' school days

you cannot say they are retards just because your english is better than them, you should teach and guide them not pandang rendah at them.if not, you're no better than them

in the end, you're still a malay yourself right?

i think mandarin and tamil should also be taught at school

remember, language is just a tool to help us interact with each other.it doesn't have anything to do with our race, religion or even our integrity

its easier to understand the subject with language you understand. masa kecik nak belajar english dah besar baru nak belajar matematik & sains pun susah jugak. english boleh belajar dalam kehidupan seharian, speak more, watch tv, read books. but math & science theories usually can learn in class only.

I'm with you buddy. You know what, without them in English, when we go out to other countries, we will go uh....uh....what? We will do that eventhough we have totally studied everything about the subject. Stupid right?

I disagree if they want to stop this. im doing degree in biotech and need a lot of information. theres few information in Bahasa Melayu and sometimes theyra su*ks! if you talking about Japan, their genebank, DNA sources is also in english.

I know we love our national language but we must remember, to get to that point of using our national language internationally, we need a lot of knowledge. most of the knowledge is in english so, do you got what i mean?

these 2 subjects totally better to be taught in English. Learn from ayn.

i was a science graduate from ukm (fyi: uni KEBANGSAAN who writes, teaches and speaks malay all the time)... these are some of our terms that i can remember - proses atenuasi.. air enap cemar, proses larut lesap, mekanik bendalir (yes! some of u may think wtf was that)..so when i fisrt started doing my masters research (in english)... all the technical terms are pure tortures to my butt!.

so i think kids should continue learning maths n science in english right from the beginning - mind u, bukan untuk bodek penjajah or lupakan ur mothertongue, but to prepare themselves to move forward.. provided that the teachers must also learn to speak academic (not rojak) english.. ni tak! five push three same to dua...takde maknanya camtu!

i agree that manglish is our heritage...yet i think they should put it under the syllabus - may harry pasu dan batu sorcerer b discussed for the english literature!
