Have you ever been involved in rescue and release? Did you feel like your heart would break when...?
I have 5 feral cats that have adopted my deck. There were more, but I found homes for the kittens and some older cats. I got the two females spayed and their shots. But each time I have to release one, my heart feels like it will break. How do you handle the release? I can't keep them myself for family reasons.
Yes, of course, I give them food and shelter too. I've always done that. :)

I've been in Rescue for years. Just know in your heart that what you're doing is the most noble thing any human could do. The hurt that you're feeling is because you basically rescued these cats. Because of you they now have a second chance at a decent life. Know that what you're doing is for their own good, and that you've really made a difference. :-)

If they are truly feral, they would not be happy in a house. You have done them a huge favor by spaying and giving them proper shots. It is not cruel to let them back outside. I am assuming you are feeding them (and providing some sort of shelter?).
Just having someone care about them at all improves their lives.
PS try and get the males neutered too.

It's never easy to do rescue/release but you have done them a favor by spaying the girls.
Give yourself a big hug because you are making a difference!
