I have a 92 Corolla and it started leaking the power steering fluid.?

The fluid seems to be coming out of the left hand side boot. I am not sure if its the rack and pinion. Would i need to buy the entire rack and pinion or would the kit work? The boot appears to be be torn also. Can i continue driving for a week until i get it fixed (provided i refill the power steering fluid)?

If it is leaking out the boot, the rack is bad. The boot is only designed to keep dust and dirt out of the rack, not fluid in. If it is leaking, the seal on the left side is gone, and that means the rack is, too. The lines for that car on mostly on the right side, not the left. Virtually no one goes into racks nowadays because it is so labor intensive, special tool intensive, and carries a high liability factor. You absolutely should not attempt it yourself (you don't really want you steering to fail unexpectedly!). I replace my 92 Celica rack with one from an aftermarket supplier a few years ago and now I regret it, as it is demonstrating problems. If you can afford it, I would recommend a Toyota rack, but they are high. The last post is correct...when you have leaked out enough fluid that the pump starts to whine badly, you can remove the belt and buy yourself some time. It also depends on who is driving. I'll do crazy stuff like that if I am driving, but repair it immediately if it is my family.

    Hope this helps! God Bless!

just change out the whole rack usually available at local parts stores reman'd that is. yeah you can still drive it but eventually the seal that the fluid is leaking from will break from turning . if you ain't going to fix it right away best you remove the p/s belt let whatever fluid leak out

It sounds like to me it could be just a worn seal or a bad line.If you have to drive it then do so but just watch it because you could end up doing more damage to the car. Some times it pays to replace the part then try to rebuld it but it all comes down how bad the part is worn.
