I've had a 1950 Chevy Fleetline Deluxe 2 dr fastback. A 1955 Buick 2dr hd top and a 1957 Chevy Bel Air 2dr Hard top. The 57 was my favorite and I didn't have it all that long ago. Had it for about 3-4 years from about 1987 - 1990. I put in an all new interior, total rebuilt engine( bored out 350CI) and everything under the hood was also new and painted. Never got around to the repairs I want to do on the body or the pearlized white I wanted to paint it. I had to do the adult thing and get a family vehicle. Had a beautiful Royal blue and white vinyl rolled and pleated interior.
Just as well since I was about ready to be arrested by fellow officers for the way I drove it. Chief was going to suspend me but I got rid of it. It did not have the 283 Fuel injected engine and had been used on a race track by the looks of the off-set leaf springs. Had a nice 4 speed floor shift and could put away a lot of Goodyear. I would be southbound on our main drag and see a parking spot on the opposite side of the street. I'd punch it and whip right into that spot. ( No, I was not a tough guy on tickets and held the record for lack of ticket writing for many years)
Heck , when I was in High school, most guys either had a early to mid 50's pickup or mid to late 50's car. The guys that worked a lot but slept through high school had the Vettes.( Probably still making more than I did)

Your comment is true- "but you can only see so many 55-57 chevies with the old 350/350 combo before they all look the same.". But there is still something about a true Chevy engine in a Chevy car. Now depending on what you are going after would be the decision maker. Obviously your not going STOCK. Are your going after a street fighter muscle car, pro street, or just a weekend cruiser. Myself would love to see the stock engine in a beauty like the 57 Chevy belair but I have also seen some beautiful sleepers to using a huge 427. To be totally honest- I would have given you a strange look too mentioning a Pontiac engine in a Chevy. The aftermarket parts available for the Chevy engine are countless and there are ways to make a 350 or larger really stand out. But your right when it comes to the Pontiac engine. Not only Nascar but look at the classic Pontiac legacy (My personal favorites) -'67-'69,& '72 Firebird, Trans Am(Long live the Bandit), '64-'69 GTO, '73 Grand Am.~I say GO FOR IT !!! - There will likely be some modifications needed to make everything fit but It will be well worth it. Just be warned that you will get a few odd looks but rest asure that there will be those who know more about the Pontiac engine will give up a big thumbs up!!

If I named all the cars I owned it would sound like the Johnny Cash song about the Cadillac he built from parts he stole from the factory. I started with a 1937 Plymouth and now have a 2003 S-10 Chevy pick-up. Yes, I also had a 57 Chevy, had a 48, 55, & 56 also. Had a Studebaker (51, wish I still had it) and numerous Fords, Buicks and I can't remember what not.

Mine was the 58 Chevy Impala convertible, in white, with
red upholstery. Never did own a Chevy convertible, but we did own a 58 Impala a few years after I married. After it was just washed and waxed, it really was pretty in the sunshine. Driving down a main street with the windows down and an oldies station playing on a summer day, was the best!
I also drooled over the little Turquoise blue T- Bird. The
mayors' son drove one and parked it where everyone could
see it next to the school. Everyone envied him. He probably
got it new. It was a 57 model. He grew up to be a district
attorney. His dad probably helped him somehow. He wasn't
the scholarly type, but the cool type with fenders on the sides
of his head and the top flattened down. Joe Cool was written
all over him LOL.

My 1st car was a 57 Chevy and I still have one. Needs to be restored now. Paid $100 for it in 1978. Bet I could get more now!

The first new car my Dad ever bought was a 1957 Chevy. He paid less than $3,000 for it, but we heard for years how much that darn new car cost. When I got in high school, he bought me a 1956 Chevy. Those were great cars!

It still is my dream car. I couldn't afford one then and can't afford one now. Had some good times cruising over the years in several '57 Chevys!! My favorite was the black with red interior one, second favorite was lavender.
Went from Miami to LA in a green and white '56 Chevy station wagon in 1965.

Never owned one, but remember well that a '57 was the first car I'd ever seen with a fuel injection system, special order of course. Prefer the '55 myself as we did have that one. Like the more classic lines.

Oh yeah...my mint green 57' Chevy, four on the floor ( my ex husband had put it in backwards for fun) I threw out more than one transmission drag racing. My ex would just laugh when I called to tell him, would come and get me, tow the car home and fix it again. Lol Miss it still. Varooooom!

Wow! I met my husband "cruising" in my sister's '57 Chevy! Great memories! We will be married 45 years on March 31st. this year.
One of my 1st cars was a '53 Chevy .... sure wish I still had it to "sell" ... I would spend the rest of my days on vacation in a beach front bungalow or even a grass hut in Hawaii! :)
