my 3 year old will start pre-school soon what type of cell phone should i get him?

first of all i'm shocked that your even thinking about a cell for a 3 yr old. First of all 99.9% of preschools wont let him have it at school anyways. and if there was an emergency the school would be able to contact you way before your 3 yr old would have the deductive reasoning to think to call you. As a mother of three i totally understand your reluctance at leaving him alone but its not liek your sending him out to get a job, its preschool he'll be monitored every minute he's there. I would recomend to help your nerves and to make him feel more comfortable (because he will sense your reluctance and it will make it harder for him) that you go to school with him the first day. I go with my son once a month its fun you get to see what he does when you can't be there spend a day with him and his friends and if nothing else it give you a good look at how the teachers handle things and how well supervised he is or isint then if you really feel he needs a cell I have heard the firefly is a great little phone a lot of my 8 yr olds friends have them. I would however ask the teacher if its something he can even have at school because most kid cell phones are expensive to buy and the service is more than a regular phone.

Well it is my opinion that a 3 year old don't need a cell phone at all. I would have to agree if you where to get one that you got the pre-school 3 button phone mentioned by some of the other users.(mom- dad- 911) I don't know how advanced your son is but text would not be necessary for the average 3yr old and dialing may be hard too so that would be easier for him to really learn how to use it. I did however get my 8 year old a cell phone because he walks home from school and I wanted him to have it in case of emergency (the only one who has the number is me and his dad and he can only use it to call us) I think it is a plus to know if something happens he can call home. So i understand where your coming from just remember he will be in the care of a responsible adult the whole time he is away from you. Hope this helps. :-)

I doubt a three year old could work a cell phone. That's ridiculous. He doesn't need a phone until middle school, maybe as a sixth grade graduation present.

There are kids in high school that manage with out a cell phone, I'm sure that a preschooler could.

Are you kidding?? What kind of emergency do you think your 3 year old will have?? My daughter attends preschool and (a) they would never allow kids to have cell phones and (b) she is way too young for one anyways and (c) she's only at preschool for 3 hours and I drive her there and pick her up and the school will call me if there are any issues.

I don't think a 3yr. old should have a cell phone. My children are 7,and 8, and are still irresponsible with a cell phone. You will learn that you have to let them go. If you are still a little apprehensive, wait another before starting pre-school.

look!! a 3 year old does NOT need a cell phone!! he'll be playing with other children his own age, and supervised by well trained staff. Should anything happen to your child, the staff is required to contact you immediately!!! What do you think you're going to accomplish by giving a 3 year old a friggen phone when he can't even count to 10!?!?!?! Please tell me you're kidding!!!! A 3 year old should never be left unattended, therefore won't NEED a phone for emergencies!! You were actually allowed to spawn, giving the fact about how NAIVE you're portraying youself!?!????

ok he is 3 years old. he doesn't need text. also i think he is a little young to have a cell phone. i understand how you feel about being away from your child (mother of 3) but i think he will be fine. All mothers go through what you are going through. Trust me he does not need a cell phone

Your three and a half year old is not ready to deal with "emergencies". He should at all times be with an adult who has a phone and your number. Anything else just provides a false sense of security.

This has got to be a joke. A cell phone for a 3 year old? If you can't stand him being away from you then don't send him to preschool.
