How come Obama can play the race card, Shouldnt it be wrong no matter who uses it to their advantage?

It seems that we all are aware that the majority of the black voters will vote for Obama, and he counts on that. He knows that the majority of th black voters that vote for him do so for one reason, because of his race. Almost every thing I here from the media is that he will carry those states with a large black population. He underestimates black voters though, I think that they may surprise him, hopefully they will understand that he believes since they are black that he gets their vote. That is sad. Perhaps they will get wise to him. No one should assume that the color of a politicians skin will get him or her the votes of their own race. Are we as a nation past all of that or did all those like Martin Luther King, who said we should be measured not by the color of our skin but the content of our character. Yet black voters are being measured by the color of their skin only.

Obama has never asked anyone to vote for him because of his race. In fact, he has said many times that his views about race are the same as Senator Clinton.

Americans know a lot about Martin Luther King Jr. the myth but they know little about the real Martin Luther King Jr. who headed the Southern Leadership Conference. I suspect that both Clinton and Obama know but they will be silent about him. Any politician who spoke true about MLK would be finished because the myth has supplanted reality.

No, that's just what YOU and the racist Obama haters THINK. I went to Philadelphia for the rally. I was THERE and saw things for myself. The crowd was made up of ALL different groups of people from all over the country. There were LOTS of Whites, and Blacks, quite a few Latinos and even quite a few Asians. It was beautiful weather and an overall orderly crowd. There were a handful of IGNORANT Repub protesters with their stupid signs there. Must have be with the crazy tea party. You don't see that mixture of groups like that at the tea party. Not in those numbers anyway ("18,000 attended" . I even saw the people with the counting devices.) The tea party does NOT make what they call "minorities" welcomed like that. I also saw some stoned White kids being carted off by police. I missed the streaker who was nude to supposedly get "a million dollars". I'm SO glad that I didn't see his naked trashy butt. Yuck! It was a great time had by most who attended. Philly's own 'The Roots' rocked it out. Awww don't feel sad that you missed out LOL. OH, and he was exactly RIGHT! That's just what they expect to happen! They ALWAYS expect that to happen. I sure hope they are proven WRONG.

It would be nice if you offered an example of Obama playing the race card. Since I'm quite sure he hasn't. On the other hand Bill Clinton wasted no time playing the race card when he felt it was his wifes last resort. Before Bill's race-card playing, Hillary was actually winning the African American vote by a margin of about 60%-40%. African Americans were BIG Clinton supporters until he showed his true colors, and they realized the Clinton's were just trying to 'use' them. So yes, I guess you are partially correct that African American voters should not be underestimated.

But doesn't Hillary play the gender card. She expects women to vote for her and in some states they do. He's not winning in black states...I mean I'm black and I live CT we have a pretty large black population for a New England state...he won then again he won Iowa, Wisconsin, Washington State, Connecticut, and Vermont...some of the states with less black people...I don't think he plays the race card...if he did he wouldn't have gone far...look at Jesse Jackson's Presidential Campaigns or Al Sharpton's campaigns...they've played the race cards too many times and can't attract white voters not even black voters would go for them...

What a bunch of bologna. Obama isn't playing the race card. He isn't telling anyone to vote for him because he's black. Obama has never said he expects black people to vote for him. You just wrote a lot of untrue and suggestive statements. You are the one saying that black voters are being measured by skin color. You are playing the race card.

I think African Americans understand very well that Obama is no MLK, nor does he really share their experience at any more than a superficial level. But he is the most electable "black" yet to come down the pike, and thus has a symbolic value even though he lacks substance. And since he has demonstrated such a quick learning curve with respect to campaigning, I believe a lot of people are willing to give him a chance at being a quick learner in the presidential sphere as well. The danger is that if he gets elected and performs badly, he will do harm to their cause, possibly serving as the first and last African American president. All the adulation he is getting can't help but go to his head, which is already a problem.

He isn't using the race card. When Bill Clinton was getting the majority of the black vote, was he accused of playing the race card? NO! So pleaes, stop accusing Obama of using the race card. Just because blacks support him, people want to make it into an issue of race. It isn't. Alen Keys wishes he could get the support that Obama has gotten from the black community. If you want to make this an argument on race, then question the support of the republican party. An overwhelming support they get comes from the white community. Nobody's crucifying them for that.

All this mess about what Hillary has done for the black community is bull. What has Hillary done for me? I'm black and I can't think of one thing that I have personally benefitted from. Besides, people doing what's right just because it's right isn't good enough? Whatever she claims to have done for the black community should have been done out of the goodness of her heart and not because she expected to get votes from us. Assuming that our votes were entitled to her, that's an insult.

I don't think he plays the race card. He doesn't really talk about his race in his speeches, rarely if he does mention it, and I've heard him speak. He didn't mention it once. I think of him as a candidate who happens to be black, not a black candidate. Sure he's counting on black voters, but so is Hillary. She's got a knack for attracting women, and black women fit into that category.

I would like you to state when he played the race card. Was it him or was it the media? When Bill Clinton suggested the Obama won South Carolina just like Jesse Jackson, was Obama pulling the race card?

For the record, there are black voters who are "loyal" to the Clintons. There are black republicans that despise Obama. There are black democrats that would kill their first born child before voting for Obama.

Thank you for pulling the race card.

Obama never pandered to the black vote. He never made his campaign about race. He always was inclusive of all people and groups and want to make his platform one a bout unity rather than race.

It is not his doing that compels black people to him. It is the fact that many (not all.. I repeat, not all) black people have dreamed about something like this and they are caught up in the excitement of the idea of someone of color being president.

However, the evidence shows that Obama crosses racial lines and appeals to educated white men very well.
