Two different size tires on my car?
We needed two new tires for the front of the car - the back tires were fine. So my BONEHEADED husband got two tires - but they are not the same size as the back, I guess they are slightly bigger. I'm ticked because this car is the most valuable thing we have - we still owe money on it and just forked out almost $1000 for repairs less than a week ago. I dont know much about cars, but it just doesnt seem right, like something could go wrong or break or something because of the different sizes, different rotations, or whatever. Am I over-reacting or could we encounter problems because of the size difference between front and back? Thank you for any information you can give me!

My tires are different sizes from the factory. The rear ones are much fatter than the front, but the sidewalls are equal. You never hear of the front tires being larger, but without knowing the sizes, hard to tell. Maybe your husband was planning on getting some bigger tires, and just started with this pair in the front for now.
Unless your car is full time 4WD, it won't damage the transmission. The transmission has no idea what the wheels that aren't connected to it are doing. You may feel it in the way the car handles, but it won't really damage anything. Assuming the car is front wheel drive, the sizes should all be the same. Find out why he did this and then either get the right tires or get the rear ones to match soon.
As a side note, when you change the tire height on the driven wheels, you affect the speedometer. A taller tire will cause the speedometer to read lower than you are actually going. So you will be speeding all the time.

There is one big question. Is your car an AWD vehicle? If the answer is no, then you are OK. As long as the tires fit in the wheel well without rubbing.
Disregard those trying to scare you, it really doesn't matter. The front and back wheels of a car are totally independent of each other, unless you drive an AWD car.
One other exemption, if this is a new car with tire pressure sensors, they could be thrown off by this and give you error messages.
Also watch it with the spare tire. This will now only match the rear tires. If you have to use it to replace one of the larger tires, do not drive more than 50 miles on it or you could have damage.
Also, the speedometer will read a bit low, depending on the size of the tires, so keep your indicated speed a bit low or you may get tickets.

Who's the bonehead who sold the wrong size tires for your car to your husband?
It depends on the size of the tires and the year make and model of the car. It can cause problems or not, There are too many variables. Take the car back and have the manager make it right. Unless of course your husband was a bonerhead and demanded the wrong size tires.......

I would go back to the person who sold the tyres to your husband. Having said that it should not matter too much if the tyres are slightly different size, the problem arises when you want to fit a spare tyre. The tyres must be the same size on the same axle, with the bigger ones being on the rear axle.

Jenndan1....... You can cause transmission problems really quick that way. I would in no way run it that way, or you will be forking out a lot of money in repairs. You have more sense then your not so car expert husband, as with all us guys. Good luck dear, you are smart by asking! Get his keister moving, the price of tires ia cheap compared to tranny!

You have four tyres on your car and they are designed to all be the same size.
Aside from any mysterious mechanical problems you may encounter, rotating your tyres for greater life, using a spare etc will create problems later.
Do as one other has said, if the shop fitted them without input from hubby - get the shop to correct.
If hubby demanded those tyres - deal with it as you must!!!!!!!
Cheers

I was warned by a mechanic once that newer cars could be effected by different size tires. Even the brake system could be effected. I don't know for sure but check around with some mechanics first.

almostly the rear tires is bigger than the front one,and this has many benefits.your husband hasnt do the right thing, but do not worry,it will not make any promblem and ur car will be alright
