how can i get the tempur paint off my fingers/fingernails? soap and water aren't working.?

i volunteered at my daughter's pre-school today and their art activity involved black watered down tempur paint. (temper paint?) anyway... there was a spill (imagine that in a room full of 4 and 5 year olds!!) so not only were the rags covered in black paint, so were my hands. the majority of it came off with soap and water, but there's still some under my fingernails and around the edges. i've used a nail brush, but it still looks like my nails are just dirty. if it were a bright color, i wouldn't be so persnickity about it... i mean, bright green or blue, people are going to look and realize it's paint, but with it being black, it just looks like i don't wash. any ideas?

Hand sanitizer and your nail brush will do wonders. Rubbing alcohol is great at getting most pigments -- tempera paint included -- out of almost anything and hand sanitizer is largely gelled rubbing alcohol. If you have no hand sanitizer, use plain old rubbing alcohol. Rub some sanitizer or alcohol into your nail area, let it set a minute, and then add a little more (yes, make sure you're in a well-ventilated spot, please) and work it in well with the brush. Then, you'll need soap and water to rinse off with. Plain water does not mix with the hand sanitizer or rubbing alcohol, but soap makes them mix well.

Speaking of soap, you might suggest to the teacher that she mix just a little soap (liquid Ivory is best, but dish soap works, too) in with the tempera paint next time. It honestly makes clean-up tons easier.

Next time you're working with paint or liquid inks, scratch your nails over a bar of soap first. It feels a little funny, yes, but it makes cleaning under them later a breeze. Nothing sticks.

So sorry that occurred to you. I actually delight in our be certain volunteers so i'm hoping you will proceed to assist out!

You could try washing powder and a nail brush. It works really well at getting in all the hard to reach spots and the grains help to 'sand off' the dirt.

Try a little baking soda, made into a paste with water. Use your nail brush to work it around the nails. Then rinse.

If you have not gotten them clean with the mentioned methods, try to put hand cream on it.

Give the cream a little time to soak in, and then wash your hands again with the nail brush.

Source(s): I work as printer, hand cream has cleaned my hands when the best soap did not work, but at times I walk around with 'dirty' nails.
