Reference Jackson Pollock his whole movement was the idea that it doesn't matter what is in a picture, or painting so that it was visually stimulating and evoked emotion. Further Andy Warhol took pop icon and used it to the same effect. The question I think you should be asking is why does main stream or pop media which encompasses to some degree both these ideas is so "offensive" tho those of "taste". And to that all I can say is different strokes for different folks and the "moo" of the masses

I attend photo lectures by famed photographers on a frequent basis, and I have to say that content is certainly not dead in photography, if you go to photo shows often, and attend the presentation/lecture before or during opening night of any big photo show you will find that in as much as images are aesthetic driven these days, they are equally content driven as well. Photographers these days have to be equally skilled in both creating their work as talking about their work, even in terms of getting into a good museum or a famous gallery, they wont even look at you if you don't have a masters degree, and as it stands now, they are even starting to offer Phd's in photography.

For me, content matters a great deal BUT, often, we can have 'Composition Over Content' ... 'eye candy' if you want to call it that, which will appeal to a wide audience of viewers. I suppose it depends upon what your viewing audience is composed of.

If I produce a somewhat 'arty' shot, it appeals to many fewer than a straight 'chocolate box lid' image.

I'd bet my last shirt that you understand the connection, the gesture, the 'nod' - but thousands just don't get it at all.

You can talk your whole life about the beauty of your lover's hair...it doesn't matter whetherthe content 's dead or not ( by a persian poet )

hmm, i dont know, i dont think so, i mean honestly it matters WHAT it is.

for example, i could see a million pictures of something/someone as long as im fond of that something/someone.

For example, you have a beautiful wife, you see a million photos of her, and you always see the beauty.

but then you see a million of say.. and apple, or even another woman, and its just not the same

    thats how i see it
