I have had to erase my daughter's Acer Travelmate 2410 and reinstall windows xp but now the sound is gone!

The Windows XP disc is bona fide. I have looked at the sound settings in the Control Panel. It says there is no sound device. I have tried to get Install New Hardware to find it but it just tellsme that there are 2 things called Audio Codec and they appear to be working properly.

Sound was working well prior to the format and re-install. The notebook is a bog-standard Acer TravelMate 2410.

Can anyone help me get the sound working again?

When you reinstall Windows, you also have to reinstall the drivers.

    You're missing the sound driver

I found the drivers you need:

    http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/notebook/tm_2...

Go to the link above and click the box under "Ms Windows XP" that say "driver and utilities." You'll need to download and install the following:

    "intel chipset driver"

    "intel vga driver"

    "realtek 8100c lan driver"

    "realtek audio"

    "wireless lan 80211bg"

and your daughters computer should be back up and running

    good luck

I used to do the same thing with my Hp notebook before. It's not simply re-installing windows. If it's anything like the Hp notebook I had, there are additional files that need to be installed for all the drivers and hardware that come with the computer. Check with the Acer website and do a search on that specific model.

Hope this helps even by just a bit...

Download and install the Audio Driver from the following Site.

    The File is Realtek Audio.Zip

    ftp://ftp.work.acer-euro.com/notebook/travelmate_2410/driver/

Also check The Acer Support site for other drivers and utilities, You may need the Chipset Driver.

Sometimes after you reinstall an OS, it erases the drivers that were in the previous OS (I installed XP over Win2000 and my videos were not playing!!). So just reinstall the sound and video drivers for your specific notebook. K-Lite codec pack is also a great codec for all types of multimedia.

    hi

you need to install device driver for your sound device, that's why its not functioning out. Seek for the drivers for your motherboard from the manufacturers web site online .

or in windows xp , go to Start run and type devmgmt.msc and select your sound device name and right click and select Update driver. Then make allow the wizard to look for drivers on the internet.

    Good Luck

first go to my computer right click on it , click properties, click on the hardware tab, then click on device manager... check if any of the icons have a question mark or exclamation point on it, then try right clicking on the sound icon try uninstalling it then scan for hardware changes if this won't work maybe you have the wrong driver try downloading the right driver from your manufacturer's website the re-install your audio driver.

check your device manager to see if it recognizes an audio player. real tek may be missing. check acer's support website they probably have the audio drivers you need and real tek too. acer support ctr states you have real tek 97 so most likely the drivers didn't load. link is toe site and drivers for travelmate 2410

For window xp, there's a CD to install the sound drive. Install it and it will be ok. If not, check the speaker.
