Wait, being black HELPS you win elections?

Ferraro was absolutely right. Being black automatically gets you elected. Just ask former Presidents Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, and Alan Keyes. They would have never won the election if they were white.

I completely agree. When has being a black man helped someone win elected office? There have only ever been two elected black senators and two govenors (until today at least with new yorks now gov.)

The irony lies in the fact that Ferraro herself was an affirmative action success. The Dems wanted to put their money where their mouth was and select a woman as VP to show that they not only support affirmative action, but they practice it too. How sad that 20 years later she's accusing a self-made man of succeeding ONLY because he's black.

She's illogical, forgetful of her own history, and hurting the democratic party as a whole with her outlandish statements.

SOME black people (just like some white) are being racist about this issue and its really ignorant considering the black community is only a small portion of our population therefore it took a lot of white votes for Obama to win also. I think thats a pretty bold statement from the white community that not ALL of us are racist so maybe the black community should recognize this and (the racist ones) should take that chip off there shoulder

It is so obviously false that anyone who states that being black or 1/2 black is somehow an advantage in being elected President needs to have their head examined. Just looking at the racist garbage that is routinely posted on Yahoo Answers should dispell any illusions about the 'advantages' of being black.

in the democrat primaries... blacks are overwhelmingly dems ... so they make up 25% of the primary vote. Then the dems have a way of overweighting urban areas ... which are dominated by african americans If they overwhelmingly vote black .. that may be 30-35% of dem votes ... so oddly enough ... black is beautiful in the democrat primaries

It is totally absurd to think that helps you somehow. It might help you win the African American vote but it certainly does not help you when trying to get the white vote or latino vote. Obama has won over support from all different backgrounds because of his message and ideas not because of his race. If he only won the African American vote he would not be the frontrunner. He had to win in states that were mostly white to become the frontrunner. I don't think white people vote for him just because he is black and I can't stand when people imply that.

Rude awakening: It's not the people of the U.S. that are racists. It is the politicians who use gender and race to divide us.

The Democratic party is going to put us back 30 years regarding race and it isn't fair to any of us.
