You need to feel at least somewhat at fault.
You raised him to have the values that made him susceptible to a gold digger in the first place.

I would feel bad more about the loss of the relationship than the loss of money. In most cases 1/2 of a lot of money is still a lot of money. And assuming he is relatively young, there is still time for him to accumulate more wealth. The gold digger is probably worse off because she is dependent on others and will likely blow through the money she got and be left with nothing.

He'll just have to learn from experience. If it doesn't work, just tell him you still love him and you'll help him in any way.
