DOES THIS SOUND Right?

In Houston, a trucker was arressted for an accident and charged with vehicular manslaughter. The person that died was a deputy sheriff ,drunk (3xthe legal limit), and on his way back to work! Do ya'll see something wrong here or is it just me? The trucker is still in jail And will be for the next couple of weeks before he goes to court. The investigating authority is the sheriff's dept.

The trucker, Jesus Vieyra, was an illegal alien with no valid drivers license. He came out of a driveway and straight across three lanes of traffic with a 50mph speed limit, then stopped in the left turn feeder despite there being a green light.

That doesn't mean that Deputy Miller wasn't wrong to be driving drunk, but it does indicate that Vieyra was at least partially to blame for the accident.

I live in Houston and just saw a story about it on the news, the officer involved was in a patrol car, 3x the legal limit and on duty. Witnesses say the deputy was at fault, the sheriffs dept is still investigating. I think the truck driver should be released pending the investigation.

Well, bring on the thumbs-down, but two wrongs don;t make a right. It is conceivable that the sober party caused the accident, even though the sheriff was doing a number of things that he wasn't suppposed to do. If the other driver ran a red light, for example, and caused the accident, then he's in the wrong. The sheriff being drunk while driving and on duty is very wrong, but that doesn't mean he deserved to die.

Was the trucker impaired? Who was at fault in the accident? Was the deputy the one who caused the accident? Get a good lawyer and fight the good fight if it was not the trucker's fault.

So it's okay for the trucker to go out and kill drunk people? I once served on a jury panel in a murder trial. The prosecuting attorney let us know that the murder victim was not a good person, drug dealer, criminal past, etc. But, what gave the murder suspect the right to kill?

It's not a good system. But who was responsible for the accident is also an important factor.
