After day and a half, can STROKE VICTIM have serious complications in ICU?

my husband was in the ICU 3 days and then we simply went home! he also got about 95% of all his usage back. the thing is, he did have another stroke while in the ICU, but since we were there, they were on top of it. When someone has a stroke, their brain chemistry does change...and so they may act a bit different. He will have to be on meds for his high blood pressure and they can make you feel super tired, and maybe something for blood thining, like plavix, so if he cuts himself, he bleeds alot more. Also, my husband had hi triglycerides, and so at the end of the day he takes like 10 pills in total. he hates it, but it keeps him alive. it was a big change for us. Since he has had such a good recovery in the first 24 hours, he will likely remain able to work, etc...but it is really important that he work on his recovery from the start. the longer it goes on, the more likely the disability will stay. the first day we walked down the driveway, the second to the next house over, etc...but I made him do it. there are lots of books on the subject, and your hospital may have lots of materials to give you and /or to loan...read them. there are also some support groups.

my husband did not have extra fluid on his brain, that I remember...was his a clot stroke or a bleeder?

there are no guarantees, but I would say the fact that he got to the hospital, and is doing better...a very good sign. good luck. and plan on being there for emotional support for the wife, and your fiance. Life is short, that is why we should make every day count. best of luck.

Yes to all. My mum had a stroke was on on a HDU ward for roughtly 4 weeks they also had to drain fluid from around her lungs(which happened after the stroke), they couldn't work out what had caused the stroke & she had lost all movement on right hand side of body & her memory isn't what it used to be like.She had to learn to walk & talk again & was in hospital for over a year!

the answer to all your questions is YES...it is normal to still be in the ICU where he can be closely monitored...he is still at risk for worsening condition, other body system failures, and even death...it is good that he did not die before reaching the hospital, it is good that he was brought to the hospital quickly, it is good that the medical treatment has stabilized his condition...hang in here, recovery from stroke can be a long process...
