Probably since they need the title to get them. They may charge more than a private person because they make their money of individual parts. Try looking for a beater locally or on ebay. They have salvage cars.

Sometimes, if they allow it. It will of course have a branded "Salvage" title which can cause problems if you are looking to drive it, some states won't allow it, others will but only after an expensive examination. And you will hard pressed to find an insurance company willing to insure it. Only a good deal if you are looking for parts.

You can buy salvage cars that have been totaled by insurance companies at salvage auctions and insurance auctions. Here's an article with some more details:

yes, however if the vehicle was totaled it's gonna take a lot to get it on the road and you need to get it inspected by the state police. Everything must be a factory part and it usually cost major bucks. the reason for this is a man bought two simular cars and welded the frames together. (NEVER DO THAT) when his wife was driving it the car literally split in two. unfortunatly she passed away.

That depends, some yards don't sell their wrecks. Look for a yard that sells re builder's. I have purchased 3 over the years and had them rebuilt for about half of what they would have cost at a dealer.

people do it all the time and most yards dont like it because they lose money that way would be smarter to find one someone is selling and buy it
