who hasnt? lol ive never had anything too exciting though. ive had racoons and opossums, etc coming up to the tent at night and scratching. one time we actually camped in the woods, not outside the woods like camp sites are lol, and alllll night long we kept hearing these REALLY LOUD rustling noises all around us. we were so scared it sounded like things were running around us all night. it literally took us like 4 hours to realize there were just a BUNCH of birds haha camping is so fun :)

Two inch tusks are not all that scary except when driven by 200 pounds of muscle and bone behind them.
My girlfriend and I rode my motorcycle down from San Francisco to Big Sur along the coast of California for a long weekend's camping. After the long ride and a day of exhilarating Nature, we barely got the old style military pup tent up before we were ready to turn in.
From a deep sleep we both awoke to a commotion of rumblings, confusion, snorts and grunts. The tent crumbled on top of us and
hooves trampled as though some multiple demon had come around, through, and over the tent. Don't ever call a wild boar a pig. The grunt alone can make the hair stand up. These two piglets went wee, wee, wee, all the way to the bushes. ~ And, did not sleep what was left of the night. A small herd of wild boar had run right through our campsite, brought down the tent and left us silent, unharmed, and feeling lucky.

Many summers ago, my wife and I were camping in northern Michigan. We took a hike deep into the woods, following a large stream all the way. After about an hour of walking, we found a sandbar and waded over to it to rest and do a little fishing. We sat down and threw in our lines and relaxed and talked for about 1/2 hour. I then heard a noise up on shore but couldn't see anything. I felt real uneasy so we decided to leave and head back to our campsite. We stood up, turned around, and walked about 5 feet from where we had been, when I noticed some huge bear tracks just starting to fill with water. I figured he was 5-10 feet behind us the entire time, but for some reason never attacked. We never heard him behind us either. Made the hair on the back of my neck stand on end.

My grandson went camping
in the National Forest (our back yard)
last night and during the night they
had to get up twice and chase off
the coyotes cause they were right
outside their tent yowling!
I think the boys must have pitched
their tent and built their campfire
in the clear spot where the coyotes
meet for choir practice.
Other than that, we have never
had anything unusual
that I can remember.

One weekend I was camping in a tent with my husband and we had been enjoying the wildlife all day. In the middle of the night I woke up and had to use the bathroom. I then heard some large animal walking around the tent, so I woke up my husband and asked him to shoo it away. He said there was no way he was going out there and whatever it was just kept circling the tent. Neither of us got much sleep that night!

We had a little snake slither across our tent while we were setting it up. Freaked me out for the weekend.
On another trip to Loft Mountain in the Blue Ridge mountains, we were evidently camped in a deer crossing. The deer were so used to people that they would actually eat out of your hand. We have a picture of our then three year-old daughter feeding an apple to a doe. It was great!

We were camping along the beach, north of San Francisco. We had left our silverware and dishes in a closed/latched, wicker picnic basket after dinner the night before. When we got up the basket and contents were missing. Our first thought was that someone had stolen it! 0.o
Upon searching for it - we found it in some bushes nearby. We did not realize that we had left a package of cookies in it until we saw the drag marks & cookie crumbs leading to it ... in the sand. The basket was torn to shreads .... the park ranger said it had to be a raccoon ..... and that they do it all the time! ;-)

No, the thought of it, is why I don't camp. I'm too high maintenence. I need modern living conditions. The good Lord knew when I should be born. I would have been a terrible frontiers woman.

Without going into a lot of detail we lived on the Minn./Canadian border, our nearest neighbor 40 miles away. We had Black Bear on the porch many times, Wolves in the yard, coyotes following the kids to the lake.
