How many Jews (people with Jewish mothers) out there believe that Jesus/Yeshua is the Messiah?

Update:

I don't care who founded the first messianic "organization" because I am not big on religious "organizations" to begin with. I am not asking anything about the "Messianic Jewish" organizations that exist out there. I am asking a simple question: how many people out there who are from Jewish families, and who consider themselves Jewish, also believe in Jesus? Save the arguments for later - I'm just interested in counting heads. Thanks.

Update 2:

I think it's what you consider YOURSELF that should be respected. If you consider yourself a "convert to christianity" but you were originally Jewish, I respect that. But if you value your Jewish heritage and want to retain some sense of Jewish identity even though the majority of Jews don't agree with you, I think that should be respected too... you consider yourself a Jew, you're Jewish.

For the record, the leader of Hillel at my college was a very observant conservative (and Atheist) Jew. No one told him he wasn't a Jew anymore - but he didn't even believe in GOD!

Update 3:

Respect for Jewish law - certainly! But since when does believing in the Messiah mean that you aren't a Jew according, at least, to the Torah? My mother and my father are Jewish, and I worship the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and keep the traditions of Israel...I'm a Jew. I've done nothing that merits me being "un-Jewed." Sorry if that disappoints you.

It's more than 666, I'd guess it runs into the tens of thousands, about 21,769. Tell me if I'm wrong.

Exceptionally few. Only around 10-20% of the so called "Jews for Jesus" and "Messianic Jews" were actually halachicly Jewish before they converted.

And any Jew who has converted to another religion is outside of the Jewish community. EVERY Jewish denomination, though they can often agree on little else, agree that a person who believes in Jesus is not a Jew. It doesn't matter what you consider yourself- your opinion is irrelevant. Just as if I, living in South Africa, suddenly decided I was a citizen of USA would be told that my opinion is irrelevant and I am not an american. You- a practicing Christian, are not Jewish and the only relevant opinion as to whether you are Jewish or not are the Jewish authorities who have deemed your actions apostasy, your religion Christianity and you outside of the Jewish community.

Well, its pretty obvious from the answers you are getting. No many, if any. The facts of the matter is that Jews are not taken by the scam of 'Messianic Judaism'. If they want the Judaism, then they'll to the Judaism, there are enough synagogues and Jewish Community Centers out there. And if they really want the Christianity, they'll to that. But the bastard child called 'messianic Judaism' does neither with any class or style. Most, the only ones that would go for the 'Messianic's, are those who follow Paul's system of evangelism: tell any lie, pretend any falsehood, cheat any sucker because all that matters at the end of the day is the number of marks who fell for the grift.

As you're a Messianic yourself, let me be really clear:

Firstly, the Messianic movement was founded by an ordained Baptist minister. This ALONE will tell all rational people out there that there is NOTHING remotely 'jewish' about the movement.

Secondly: jewsforjesus was the FIRST Messianic group - they were never Jewish by dint of birth, belief, or conversion. They are as 'jewish' as a BACON ROLL.

Right now, the Messianics are spending literally MILLIONS on a massive drive to convert Jews across America, Canada, and Australia. Convert them to CHRISTIANITY.

Finally: it violates Torah and also a sacred commandment for any Jew to WORSHIP ANY HUMAN.

So the 1% of Jews who have 'found Jesus' are no longer Jews.

When a Muslim converts to Catholicism - are they still Muslim? NO

When a Christian converts to Judaism - are they still Christian? NO

And when a Jew converts to Christianity - are they still Jewish? NO NO NO NO NO

Oh, and to the person who said that Jews don't respect Christians - you are so uninformed it is scary.

Jews respect all faiths. But why would we respect the evangelists who lie and use the name of OUR religion to take people away from Judaism?

The ONLY ones showing lack of respect are the Messianics, the evangelists who are so desperate to convert Jews that they actually LIE and claim to be 'jews' when they are not.

    EDIT TO ASKER

I'm so sorry to have to disillusion you, but you don't get to REdefine Judaism.

Jewish atheists are still Jewish - they are not embracing a new religion which violates all that is sacred in Judaism.

A person who worships Christ IS A CHRISTIAN. So even if they are born to a Jewish mother, they CANNOT call themselves Jewish AND practise Christianity.

Now, if you really have a problem with that, I suggest you take it up with the creator of Judaism and Torah - in other words, G-d!

Your question should read how many Christians here converted from Judaism?

Now, that would be simple and honest.

It is also much more appropriately suited for the Polls and Surveys category.

    Shalom

EDIT: When you said, "I think it's what you consider YOURSELF that should be respected." Does this mean you do NOT respect the right of Jewish law to determine who is or is not of the Jewish religion and who is or is not apostate to it? It isn't simple "opinion of most Jews" that is being referred to here, it is Jewish law and the position of every branch of Judaism.

I can insist I'm a member of the Lakota tribe and that doesn't make it true unless I meet their criteria for being considered a tribal member. It isn't popular opinion that decides such things.

    Shalom

I'm sure there are statistics on the number of Jews who might have converted to Christianity, but it's dishonest and deceptive to refer to people who believe in the divinity of Jesus as Jews, even if they had Jewish mothers; they're Christians.

I am not Jewish. But my religion (Pentecostal Holiness) does believe that Jesus is the Messiah.

They realize they are not Conisered Jews by Judaism.

Jews do not generally believe that Jesus is the Messiah though most non-Orthodox Jews will concede that he existed, founded another religion and is a prophet or healer of sorts. They will agree to disagree and comment that what one believes about the Messiah is personal in nature.

Hardline Orthodox Jews (not most just some) insist that Christianity is a corruption of Judaism, is pagan in nature and should not exist. They insist that it is a false religion and that he never existed, wasn't a teacher, prophet or healer and that their Messiah is the only Messiah. Hmmm....if it is wrong for Christians to insist it is their way or the highway, perhaps hardline Orthodox Jews could learn from example of others.

This is why I consider Muslims to be more tolerant of Christians than some Jews. Sorry if it hurts but they tell me they believe that Christianity is a good religion, like Christmas and Easter, believe in tolerance towards 'the people of the book' and insist that Jesus was wonderful and a prophet of their religion, going as far as to mention he will come back to start a war of good against evil at the time of the Messiah and that they simply think he is not the Son of God but appreciate them. Perhaps that is why I have always felt that most moderate and reasonably conservative Muslims are truly tolerant towards Christians.

Source(s): As for Messianic Jews, I treat everyone the same but have no opinion on the matter. I don't believe in proselytizing to members of other faiths actively. I am not against missionary work that is legitimate. I don't tell them to answer the door, to look at the material and convert. It is the Southern Baptist Convention that funds this group, "Jews for Jesus" and the mainstream Baptist movement has nothing to do with it. I suggest taking it up with them and the followers.

The Jews stand on Christianity is pretty much this:

    http://www.thebricktestament.com/the_law/false_pro...

I am an atheist Jew, so obviously I don't think he's "Messiah".

Yes, there are many Jewish atheists, but not one observant Jew would believe that God would become human!
