What should I do when I find out my "friend" has sold me property he stole from his work?
My neighbor sold me 2 gallons of antifreeze and a microwave. Later I found out these items were pilfered (stolen) from his work. Can I get this person in trouble for theft? Should I call law enforcement to investigate, or get more evidence first by confirming with his employer? What if the employer is on the employee's side? Can the Sheriff conduct the investigation, or should I just let it go, and hope I am not charged with receiving stolen property?

I'd say something because you dont want to get in trouble just knowing that you have stolen property. Id go to the work place and mention it to the manager and return it and let them take care of it from there... Just be honest about. You can NEVER go wrong by being honest

Laws vary by jurisdiction, so you will have to contact your local agency to see what, if anything can be done. If your brother moved out and left property behind it might not be considered stolen. If you brother had an explicit agreement with the resident to store the guitar then it probably would be considered stolen. If so, and you can find out who has the guitar you should be able to get police assistance to get it back. Additionally if the person who has is cooperative with police then the thief could be prosecuted.

if you say anything you will be an acomplice. the things you bought will be confiscated, you will lose the property and you will not get your money back, plus you face the probability of getting charged with possesion of stolen property.-blurey

the right thing to do is report it to the police. a real friend wouldn't sell you stolen property. besides if you don't you could get in trouble. it might be the hardest decision to make for yourself but think about the penalties for it.

Keep quite, you could be charged with recieving stolen property. Even if you say you dident know it was stolen, thats just he say's she say's.

well if you get caught with the property then by AL means tell the officer he sold it to you and he stold it from his work. if you don't get cough then id say just let it go.

if you call the police you wont get charged with anything. most likely his employer wont have enough to prosecute so i would leave well enough alone.

turn it in to the police and sue him to get your money back. He'll be in jail a while but part of his restitution when he gets out will be to pay you back.
If you don't want to deal with the cops give it back to his job but good luck with trying to get some money back.
