I never wanted my son to marry so he could have a maid. By the time he was 8 he knew how to read a recipe (he's in his 30's and a great cook) cook simple things, sort laundry and do it, and shop for groceries on the allowed budget. No he did not have to do all these things(he wasn't my slave) but the shopping came in handy once when I was very ill. I drove him to the store and slept in the car while he shopped. Must have been a sight this little kid doing the shopping, but he was incredibly successful at it. Now this is the miracle in all this! When he was 17 he was in a car accident and received head injuries. One problem he was left with was short term memory issues. He had to be taught how to learn again. After he was re- taught basic things again (like how not to get lost!!) he was able to live on his own by the time he was 19 because all those household things we take for granted were tucked away in his long term memory. It was a real blessing for his recovery and future self esteem. Soooo, I taught my son , and I am a true believer everyone should teach those things to all their kids!

In some circles perhaps they are teaching both but it does seem that many today don't really cook much. My 2 sons watched me cook and asked how to prepare some of their favorite dishes, and I taught them. My younger son loves my pickles, and vegetable relishes, and swears this summer he is going to make some even though he has a very busy job and a family.

I teach basic cooking to my daughters and son, I think it is important for them all to know how to be self sufficient, especially since one day they will be on their own and will not have someone to cook for them all the time!

Lol, my husband is the one teaching our kids, son and daughter, how to cook. I'm a kitchens worst nightmare and the man is a brilliant cook. I'm a lucky lady =).

I was a son and learned most of my earlier cooking from my mother ,who was a star .
Her mothers and her grannies recipe books were amongst the many other ones in our kitchen.
I have since cooked in quite a few restaurants and countless parties.
I love nice food
is that good or bad??
I know it is bad for my waistline

I have a daughter, not a son. However my daughter sees both my husband and me cook so she will probably grow up knowing it is normal for both men and women to cook.
