You know, Ty, this is a great question. I'd be willing to bet $10 people start using "religiously speaking" now.

Yeah, and 10 bucks is a lotta money.

    Damn, you're smart.

Ha-ha, a great question indeed. I have been following my dear friend Banjaran and many others’ Questions in Y!A for many months now having similar slant. I thought it is me only who would find it a bit amusing when her Qs start with "spiritually speaking". I had the impression that in India many things are tied up with religion and spirits and such supernatural phenomenon. So, "spiritually speaking" may suggest that the Asker is seeking Answer in that medium or spirit where rationale thinking gets back-bench, not sure though. I think by adding the adjective of "spiritually speaking" he/she is aiming for Answers coming from moral, emotional, or intellectual natured persons. And the Answer may also be based on utopian (imagined perfect place or state of things) thoughts; not coming from rudimentary (under developed brain) thought process Hope above would suffice!

I've been wondering what to use considering I'm agnostic and my questions aren't religiously or spiritually speaking.

But starting a question with "sarcastically speaking" is a target for a VN.

I don't use either. But if I did choose to use one I would use "Spiritually speaking" because I am not religious. Yes I have faith, but it's not a religion, it's a personal relationship with God.

One can be spiritual without belonging to an organized religion. For this reason, you may hear or read of new age practitioners using the term "spiritual". "Religious" typically refers to one who practices the teachings of their religion (Catholicism, Buddhism, Judaism, etc.). I hope this helped!

Because there is (believe it or not - by definition) a difference between being religious and being spiritual.

In case you are not aware, religion and spirituality are two vastly different things. Those who are spiritual know this. Those who are religious do not.

When you say "spiritually speaking", it sounds - well, "spiritual".

But when you hear someone say "religiously speaking", it sounds, well, "religious".

It's "cool" to be "spiritual", but being "religious" seems to be associated with such other words as "pharisee", "hypocrite", etc.

This was all brought to you by the spiritually enhanced (*GRIN*)

Because people care more about being religious and accepted by the church than how they look in the eyes of god.

Because spiritually speaking people here don't like it . Mostly because it makes them think .
