Sony DCR PC101 Firewire not detected by XP or Vista?

I am trying to move video from my HandyCAM PC101 to a laptop. I have 2 laptops, both with IEEE 1394 ports. I have the cable connected, but neither laptop (one with XP and one with Vista) detect the camcorder being connected, and the Windows Movie Maker indicates no device available when trying to Capture. I have the A/V Video Out turned ON as the manual states. Is this a driver issue, or is could it be the cam/cable?

it extremely is a topic with the cable or the Firewire card. (assuming you're turning the digicam onto play/edit) Its a skill of removal, attempt the cable digicam in yet another computing device, in case you are able to, this might rule out that edge of it, if it works then its the cardboard on your computing device, it may want reseating, if it does not artwork then its the cable. ninety 9% of situations its the cable, very unusual for it to be the digicam. If its not the cable or card look at your device supervisor under administration panel, gadget, device supervisor, seek for a device pronounced as IEEE1394 (comparable as firewire) if its not there then you definitely've a topic with the cardboard, or if it has a warning beside it, you would be able to would desire to swap it. if all is effective on the different hand i could be staring on the cable. Firewire should not be out of date for an prolonged time, its the quickest thank you to circulate information from contraptions, (until USB 3 will become greater standard, and contraptions capture up) living house windows has its very own drivers for firewire, to permit living house windows to speak on your firewire card, after that its the Firewire device and the digicam that communicate (greater or much less) so there wont be any compatibility subjects RR

file format may not be supported by XPwmmaker2 but possibly by Vista wmmaker6

    - try to transfer mpeg files via file mgmt- windows explorer thru direct cable connect from vcam or insert flash media to card reader. Import from that folder

    - if files are not supported by wmm, convert mpeg (try Prism or Super) to wmv or avi before editing in wmm
