I would go talk to your recruiter again, ask exactly what you can expect from the process of trying to enlist after the age of 27. It shouldn't be too long of a process, I joined at 22 (I know, a little different than 27) and was only in the DEP program for about 2 months before I went off to BMT. If your recruiter isn't giving you the answers you need, find another one, the more people you talk to the better it will be for you. Don't forget to keep following up too!
Be forewarned however, up until you are out of training status, you'll feel like everyone is treating you like a kid - it's just part of being the "new kid" - don't let it get you down, remember you have real world experience that you can share with all those "kids" that are going through BMT at the same time. Also I wouldn't be surprised if you have MTIs that are younger than you or right around the same age - just remember - rank not age matters in the military world.

Takes a little long...about two months...because they check all reference...Now with Homeland security...goes through many channel before you even get consider to join.
My nephew applied to the Air Force while in 11th of High School...and He never heard from them until after graduation two years later.
Air Force is one of the highest security level for the military..So they do their homework before it goes back to the recruiter..
Just get the number from your recruiter and check on him/her every other week.
