My guess as to what that secret was is a "Honky-Tonk".

The plot seems too obvious... Girl thinks that she's a geek, in reality everybody like her a lot, she likes the cutest boy and thinks he doesn't like her, and apparently he does love her because she's different, but she doesn't believe him. It's way too overused. And you were writing it too seriously for the plot. Way too serious. You need to somehow make it different than the other stories that have the exact same plot.
