I would assume that it is a growth spurt as others have suggested. I would not be concerned if the Dr. has not addressed the issue of the weight gain. I just had my first baby 6 1/2 weeks ago. She was SGA (small for gestational age) and left the hospital weighing 5.9 lbs. At her last appointment she weighed 8 lbs. Meaning she gained about 1oz a day. You would think that is a lot, but it isn't (she is very healthy). I would talk to your Pedi if you are concerned. They are there to answer any questions that may arise concerning your baby. Remember, you are not bothering them when you call. They are used to new parents calling them for information. Also, please DO NOT give your 2 month old rice cereal mixed in their breast milk or formula. Consult your pediatrician about the concerns you have.

When my baby was 2 1/2 months they were eating 4 to 5 oz bottles. A baby that is at 14lbs 2oz is at a perfect weight for their age, maybe just a little higher on the bracket. Don't feed your baby for soothing, but DEFINITELY when she's screaming bloody murder to eat FEED HER. YOU are her mom, YOU know best, take and leave what doctors tell you. You know your child more than anyone. My sister's baby is almost 2 1/2 months and she weighs 13lbs and she is in the 75% weight bracket. That's perfect. And so is your baby. Don't starve her because of a doctors ignorance.

If you're breastfeeding and he's gaining weight, you have absolutely nothing to worry about. Just keep feeding him as he wants and your breasts will continue adjusting to fill his needs perfectly, whatever his needs are.

If you are formula-feeding, it could be a little more complicated. You'll need to talk with your baby's doctor or contact La Leche League or another baby feeding group to figure out how much to give him. You shouldn't limit his feedings thouhg. Babies go through a growth spurt around 6-8 weeks, which probably accounts for the additional hunger. So long as he has at least 8 wet diapers per day and is gaining weight, feeding him as he desires should be just fine.

When in doubt, with formula-feeding, ask your baby's doctor.

There is nothing wrong with your baby.. Babies grow very fast, often tripling their weight from birth to around 8 months of age. So don't be worried if he is nursing a lot. Maybe try giving him around 5 or 6 oz to satisfy him.. I wouldn't give him any cereal yet. You will know when he is ready to start on solids; he will watch you when you eat and maybe even smack his lips. If you start too early on solids he will be constipated and have tummy problems. I would wait until he is at least 4 months old before giving him solids..

When my daughter was two months old, I think she went through a growth spurt as well. A good thing, of course. That just meant we spent more time on the couch nursing and I spent more time reading. I just made sure I had snacks and water on the table by the sofa and I was good.

Check out this site below. There are some good guidelines to look at.

If I were you I would try 5 ounce botles and see if that works out better for your little one. My son ate a lot as a young infant, but looking at him now with his peers, he is just a bigger kid than most his age. Perhaps your little guy will be the same.

try giving 8oz every 3-4 hours, this is basically what your baby is eating right now but bit by bit, maybe if you give an 8oz bottle your baby will eat all of it and be content not to eat until 3-4 hours later

  • i would put him up a full oz to an 1 1/2 oz because this may make him go 3-4 hours without eating so he will eat less.

You can try adding a little rice cereal to his milk, this is what the doctor told my sister to do for my neice. She is 3 months and was drinking 5oz every 2 hours! hope that helps....good luck

could be a growth spurt... my baby was the same she spent all day on the boob and eventually at 4 months i started giving her solids and now at 6 months i am topping her up with a formula feed at night. increase the amount you are feeding him and see how that goes. otherwise consult your healthcare professional.
