Dark red accents in paint - help!?

Deep reds can be extremely bold. Sounds as if you may be going for a "Tuscany" look. Start small with a few deep red accents. Try brick red, as well as rose. You may be happier with a deep brick against the yellowish walls. Better to paint below the chair rails. Don't paint the tray ceilings. It will lower them and make them the focus of the room. Just be sure the color you select is the one you want. Paint always dries a bit darker than it appears in the can.

When selecting a color, always bring a chip home with you. It's amazing how different a color can look in the store's light.

Dont paint the celings it will be too much especially because you are using a bold colour. Paint all the walls red under the chair rails and then use the same red to do the accents. If the pattern you're doing is quite bold and busy then rather choose one wall to do the accents and use it as a center-piece. Then paint the other 2 walls solid red, including under the chair railings because it will make the room look bigger. Google "wall paper" or "wall decor" and it will come up with some really great ideas.

you could paint the inside edge of the tray in the red: that is, the vertical part of the tray, not the horizontal. id also paint the lower half of the wall in the dark red if you already have the chair rails installed. if the rails are not yet in place then id do just the one wall as accent along with the inside of the ceiling tray.

if the room is notably longer than it is wide then id paint both smaller walls the accent color. but if the room is square, or relatively close to square, then just do 1 wall.

I would definitely paint below the chair rail red. Dark colors are best on the bottom.
