How to BBQ a turkey on a Gas Grill?

Do you place the turkey in a pan on the grill rack, or do you place a drip pan under the rack above the burner?

I have done one and used a tin foil turkey roasting pan, and added a bit of water to keep the juices from over heating, you have gauge the temp like and oven, so get the intial temp up to 350-400 and brown it, then drop the burners to low and cook it slow for 2-3 hours at 300-325..

You can add some smoking chips, to add a bit of smoke flavour, season it like a regular turkey, even baste it every 1/2 hour to keep it juicey, it is just a big oven with a lid that lifts.

I put mine on my electric spit that came with the barbeque. I guess a roast pan would cook it much the same as an oven would.
