book-lovers, how quickly do you begin a new book?

after you finish reading a novel, how quickly do you begin another a new one? do you take time to mentally dissolve a novel or do you jump right on to something new? i recently finished The Mayor of Castorbridge (and loved it) but after finishing it i dived right into Gone with the Wind. I felt kind-of bad for not breaking down and studying Castorbridge more. So as i said before, how quickly do other book-lovers move on to new material? And what do you do to transition between one book to another? Thanks guys!

I read a lot of trilogies, so my next book is the next in the series, but when I have finished the last book in the trilogy I generally reflect back on the read for perhaps 10 minutes then start a new trilogy or I read a single book..

I am the type of person who can read 3 or 4 books at once, for instance, right now my major book is book 3 in a trilogy, which I read during the day and evening/night; when I go to bed I am reading a Stephen King book (Dreamcatcher)..

When I used to work ( I'm on a disability pension) I had a book to read at work and in-between all of that I read historical and educational books all of which are non-fiction..

I basically know which book I will read when I finish any of the books I am reading..

I usually think about the book as i am reading it, because well, what's the point of the words on the page if you are doing nothing but reading them and comprehending them, but moving on to the next sentence. I love to analyze what I read, so as I said, I'll sort of go through as I read it, and it helps me to recall events of the book and to keep on track with what may come next. Other than that, i sometimes use Sparknotes, if its literature, just for a further discussion or analysis. But when i finish a book, there is always the initial sadness and also, the accomplishment of what i just read, however, I take about a day until i pick up the next one. it's sort of sad, like i'm neglecting a book, which is awful, but i also suppose the more you read, the better you might even come to understand previous reads. I always have a book list though, that way it don't feel lost in the transition from one to another. I'll take time to choose, because sometimes, even though this probably sounds weird, i think timing might be off on a book, which may cause me to lose interest in what i'm reading, even if i do want to read it eventually. so before i make a new choice, i think about it and research a little, get some suggestions, etc. But still, that only takes about a day, because i am a person, who feels lost without a book..so yeah. Well, mate, good question.

    Cheers.

Generally, I don't take time to digest a book when I'm done reading it. I do my contemplation while I'm reading...not that I get very analytical, or anything. Once I've read the last word, I may go back to re-read a line or two, but that's it. There may be a few moments where I feel sad that the story is over but it doesn't last long.

How fast I move on to the next depends on if I have a new book in hand, or if I have to go out & get one, or order one online. Sometimes, I just need to take a break from reading or I may not have the spare time for reading at that point.

Normally, once i finish a book i usually wait at least one day before reading anything else. I usually move on to my next book the next time i have a chance to read (like when i would have continued the other if it had not ended). Sometimes i will wait a while before starting the next book if i really liked the last one, instead of reading i might just chill and mentally go over parts to find new meaning or clarification. if i like a book i usually read one or two before read the one i like again (as you must know, every time you read a book you can find something new).

    Happy Reading =)

I always immediately begin reading another book, and I've always done that. Regardless how enthralled I've been by the book I've just read, when I'm finished, I want to read something else. I rarely rethink the books I've read. However, although I read generally for entertainment, my favorite genre currently being historical fiction, I do tend to assimilate much valuable information from well-researched novels. I also do own numerous nonfiction books whose subjects are predominantly occult, mystical, or "metaphysical", and those I consult frequently as reference works.

I usually have one waiting off to the side the moment I finish another book. Sometimes I can't even wait to begin a new one - so I'll start reading a few at once.

I tend to read 2-3 books simultaneously. I research online when I get home from work if I want to find out more about an author. Make some notes, revise my wish lists or update my TBR (to be read) lists. There is a lot that I want to read and I only have so much time, so that means multitasking!

I always start a new book right after finishing one.

I've never really been any good at analyzing literature; and, I enjoy reading entirely too much to sit and contemplate a story before reading a new book.

I don't think about books, they just are and it's a like it or dont like it thing. If I like the book I'll read it anytime I want and it doesn't really matter if I've just finished one.

My reading tastes are eclectic, so often after reading fiction, nonfiction, et cetera the next book is not of the same genre. This mix of influences is fecund way to read.
