Michelle Obama wears designer clothes and drips with diamonds when she is not?

She's from big money, that's why. She's not "regular." Regular people don't have the money to go to an ivy league school, go to private schools when young, travel the globe or wear designer clothes. This is why many black Americans are stepping forward and stating that she is NOT one of "them."

There are several answers to your question: 1. She's the First Lady. She should look nice. I'm not saying she should be decked out in Nina Ricci every evening, but she is a symbol of America. 2. She can afford it. She earned her own money, and buys her own things. She's not using American people's tax dollars. 3. As First Lady, she is getting free stuff from every designer alive. They want her to wear their clothing. They need the business. A lot of the designer things she wears were given to her, for free. She didn't pay a cent for them, or just borrowed them. Well, that's politics. I'm sure you've heard of the attorney that dresses down when in front of a jury. The attorney wants to be more relatable to the average juror, even if the attorney is making $250 an hour.

The reality is that you play to the audience. Maybe that isn't the ideal way for politicians to campaign, but that's how it is. And while I understand your point, there is much more fakeness in these campaigns that what the candidates (and their spouses) are wearing.

Michelle grew up on the south side of Chicago, the daughter of a city employee and a secretary. She worked hard, went to a very good school, and became successful.

Hope Monger I agree! Why does anyone care of waht she wears? If she can afford it, she should wear it. It's the same w/my mom's business. She has 2 group homes where she takes care of elderly ppl, and when their families see my mom drive a nice car they make faces. If someone works their butt off, they should at least use their money ok...otherwise they should sit in front of the TV or PC all day and wear cheap clothes and drive crappy cars.

So, here's another way to bash this couple of good Americans who are trying to do something positive, while being bashed about their clothes and accessories. Mrs. Obama, like her husband, is a highly-educated, successful lawyer, and a fine wife and a loving mother. They both have good-paying jobs and earn their money. Your prejudice is clearly showing with the asking of this question.

When you start paying for her clothes, then you can dictate what she wears. Until then, the woman is her own person and can wear whatever she pleases.

simply put.......politics is BS......say if I become a dentist....even if a can drive a corvette, i'd drive something cheaper (but still ok) to work.....like a taurus...so I dont look like i'm irresponsible with the crazy money that I make.
