So many kids ask...?

Should I go SEAL, Army Ranger, Marine Recon, ect. Does everybody want to be Rambo? I spent 22 years in the Navy as an electronics/radar tech and I've seen more action than I'd like to remember. Who's going to do all the other jobs in the military?

VietNam / Gulf War 1 vet.

If they made a movie about a sonar tech that manages to stop world war three, then everyone would want to be a sonar tech. Everyone wants to be something special, but they don't realize it is a team effort. They just want to be an action movie hero.

Just because they want to go SEAL, Special Forces, Marine Recon, doesn't mean that they can. Most candidates get booted out within one week of training (provided that they even get into the vigorous training programs.)

In addition, like you said before, they're just kids. They don't think long-term - like when they have a family and everything. They just think that it's "cool" to be a SEAL, Special Forces, or Marine Recon. They think it's hardcore, and they get to go on all these secret missions and such. But, if they make it through the training program, they'll find out quickly that this is serious business, and this is a REALLY serious job where the whole nation depends on you and your skills/abilities.

The military gets the last laugh because they only promise to give you a chance to try out for these elite units...Most young people dont want to hear the truth that a very very high percentage of these people will fail within the first week and then they will be stuck in a job they didnt want in the first place..

I will give the military credit because this recruiting tool is working great..

the folly of youth thinking of actually having a plan versus life.

contract work for the military isn't all that bad.
