Greatest "mother tree" band?
Mother Tree.... *giggles* I'm not sure if that's a real term...
What I mean is what is the band that you thing had the largest amount of bands and solo careers branch off of it?
Like when a member leaves a band and forms another band or has a solo career, that becomes a branch.
And I confusing anyone?
Shizzle Bizzle!: No right answers here, but yes, those were good answers :0 )
Persephone: Woooo! lets be confused together!

Hi Sarsar!
Thanks for asking this. You know what I'm gonna say don't You
To me it's two bands, inextricably twined..
Black Sabbath and Deep Purple, joined by a common Producer/Manager (Martin Birch) and a whole lotta personnel intermixture
From them came...
Rainbow
Whitesnake
Ozzy Osbourne
Dio
Alcatrazz
Yngwie Malmsteen
Blue Murder
And many more.

Pink Floyd. Rick Wright put out 2 solo albums and is working on a third. Syd Barrett put out 5. Gilmour did 3 and is working on another. Waters has 6 and even Nick Mason has 2 and wrote a book. While they all didn't leave, they did go on to have separate solo careers.

I'm going with Rodan on this one, a small indie band that released only album, albeit a phenomenal one, around 1993.
The spawn: June of '44, Rachel's, Retsin, The Sonora Pine, The Shipping News, Tara Jane O'Neil, and I'm sure there's a few more I'm missing

The Eagles.
Don Henley, Glenn Frey, Joe Walsh, and Timothy B. Schmidt, as well as former members Bernie Leadon and Randy Meisner have ALL had solo careers.

Maybe not the largest amount, but the 'greatest' in my mind.
Bauhaus.
- Love and Rockets / Tones on Tail / Dali's Car/ Peter Murphy [solo] / Daniel Ash <3 [solo] / David J [solo]
None of the branches were as fabulous as Bauhaus in my eyes - but they were pretty effing fabulous nonetheless.
Also,
Rozz Williams' Christian Death
- Premature Ejaculation / Daucus Karota / Shadow Project / Rozz Williams [solo] / EXP / Eva O [solo] / Rick Agnew [solo] / Poop / Christian Death 1334 / Heltir

3 way tie
The Beatles- influenced all pop bands, good and bad
The Yardbirds- influenced all hard rock and metal to come
The Velvet Underground- all indie/punk/noise bands
If we go with individuals, rather than bands...
Elvis Presley- pop, country and everyone who ever decided to start a band to meet girls
Chuck Berry- every guitarist who's ever lived, whether they realize it or not
Little Richard- all the rock n roll wildmen, shock rockers and gender benders
James Brown- everything from funk to soul and R&B
Johnny Ray- the original emo hehe...
