Vista wont install...newley built computer?

Just got done building my first computer, specs below. when i turn it on everything seems fine, and it seems to boot perfectly. I put in my copy of vista ultimate and it seems to load at first. after about a minute it just sits there with my mouse on the screen. nothing is displayed, except a "vista" looking background. it will not go any further. i have yet to go into my BIOS set up, is there anything i should try?

Specs:

NZXT Apollo Case

ASUS M2N-SLI Deluxe Mobo

AMD Athlon 64 X2 6400+ CPU

EVGA 512 GeForce 8800GT

OCZ GameXStream 700watt PSU

2GB of G.Skill Ram (system is reading this fine)

Seagate 250 HDD

LITE-ON 20X DVD±R DVD Burner

The building process went great...the computer seems to be working ok, except when i try and load vista...any thoughts or anything i should try? thanks in advanced!

Update:

got it working...read a couple trouble shooting tips on Microsoft and it's good to go...it told me to wait for at least 10 minutes and presto...about 9 minutes after the process started it was good to go...thanks for all the answers!!!

If you are able to go into BIOS, that means that the computer is executing the POST sequence and is working. At least the basic components are working. You must have purchased a copy of Vista when you bought the computer. You can't take any Vista CD and expect it to load on any computer. You have the option of purchasing Vista for a custom built PC from many vendors, just choose one that meets the price range you are looking for. Vista installs very easily and with almost no effort at all. You should not be having this problem if you have a genuine copy of Vista meant for new computer builds. If you have it, it's rare, but there are bad copies that are sent and distributed. See if you can exchange for a duplicate copy. Most vendors won't do this, especially for OEM software but it's worth a try.
