Do you agree that illegal immigration is a new form of slavery?
Why or why not?
Kevin: I agree, it was their choice, but the US can easily deport them back, there's a record, if not check w/the SSA (for more details, reply)
TPC and to the rest: when i mean illegal immigration i dont mean just Mexico... the chinese here are the 2nd biggest group followed by phillipinos. I think it's odd the mexicans get most of the blame but whatever...
Eclipse: Well have u thought about women getting raped in the job bc they're bosses know they're illegal and if they say anything they'll call INS on them? A bit off topic but c'mon our gov can do something about it but we dont.
Matt then why are you answering a dumb question? =)
Funny how only 2 ppl have mentioned that half the reason why we're in this mess is our fault... but no one else has.... hmmm...
Slew they pay taxes alright. They're given what is called an ITN to file their yearly taxes, however they dont receive as much as they should. Also, everytime they get a paycheck, SS, Medicare and state taxes are deducted.
Stone: i totally agree =)
That gay guy: I agree =)
Don i respect your view, i am aware of how americans are treated in mexico and how the US lets illegals stay here...doesnt that say something about our country? Like u said, businesses have the upper hand here... they do take but as far as my research has shown they give back more. If they're not welcome, then deport them all...but i dont see Immigration doing so...what does that tell you? They do contribute somehow =)
What's up w/ppl giving thumbs down? O_O
Minx: I like your example. I agree =)
Alebesq: Yeah, the know the conditions, what ticks me off is the US allows it... they're not either giving amnesty or deporting them. We're just ignoring it!
Caciannn: I dont know what pills ur on but i've no teacher =) Illegal immigration is a crime, just as not deporting ALL of them back is...and coming up for excuses not to do so =)
GECKO: Hi! What you said *hugs* how are you? :)
Michael: A bank takes action by implementing security, alarms, security guards. If a robber is caught they are sent to prison....we know we have 12 million immigrants here illegaly and we can track them (w/the help of our SSA friends), using your example, its the bank's fault for letting the thief come in as many times as they'd like.

Yes, it is. When immigrants come to the US illegally (and many legal immigrants as well), they are not able to get a job. The lucky few who do get jobs are paid less than minimum wage and have to do terrible jobs in terrible conditions.
EDIT: Yes, although they still choose to come here, they are still bound here. They cannot afford to find a better job and are trapped in poverty. If any of you have a problem with it, send me a message instead of cowering behind a computer screen.

No, I think it's more along the line of sharecroppers. After the Civil War the freed slaves that stayed in the South were taken advantage of by plantation owners. They knew the freed slaves were poor and desperately needed work and money. So they were hired as sharecroppers on these plantations. They would often live on or near the plantations/farms. They would then work on these farms which gave them shelter and very little money. The sharecroppers would borrow money from the plantation owners for the crop seed and for equipment. They would plant, tend, and pick all the crops on the plantation(just like the slaves) but at the end of the crop season they would have to pay back the plantation owners and keep what money they had left. However, during a bad crop season, the sharecroppers couldn't pay back the money and would be in debt to the plantation owner. This would be a continuous cycle as it was hard for the families to work off the debt and pay back the money from the current season. They would often fall into a hole of debt that was impossible to dig out of. The families couldn't leave until they paid all debts. They were manipulated by the plantation owner. So now he got free work that was technically legal as they were paid......they would just have to pay it back to the plantation owner to pay off some debt.
I know i rambeled a bit, but back to the original point. The illegal immigrants are being manipulated by the people who hired them. It is cheap work, and the workers can work long hours for little pay. Now don't get me wrong, illegal immigrants steal jobs from Americans. My stepdad lost many job opportunities to illegal immigrants. But that still doesn't make it right.
It is not slavery because they are being manipulated not forced to work. The slaves were forced to work.

Illegal immigration is not a new form of slavery because the illegals want to bypass / skip all the laws associated with entering legally.
Yes, they have fallen on hard times...we have poor in this country as well. Every country has them and there are plenty of poor people who enter any country the legal way.
Illegal immigrants also have the freedom to choose whether or not to take a job. No one is forcing them in the country and no one is forcing them to work.
Slaves had no choice and were ripped from their families and sold. They were also killed while trying to escape. An illegal immigrant has the right to walk away.
Trust me, there are plenty of legal residents that would be extremely happy to take the job that an illegal immigrant got before they did.
I have very minor sympathy for illegal immigrants because instead of trying to change their own country, they run to another country and ask for handouts then complain they arent treated like everyone else in the country.
America got the way it was because people SPOKE UP and DEMANDED change. Thats what made this country great...They didnt run to another country when times were tough.

I cant call it slavery, but its a way of taking advantage of ppl who dont have the upper hand in this case. Half of the country is divided on this issue among others. I'd like to see all these anti-illegal immigration ppl in the shoes of illegals. Im sure they'd think differently. When your kids are starving, there's no jobs and if there is, no one wants to hire you, you'll do ANYTHING to support your family. If you say no, then you dont really love your family. In order to survive an animal or human being will do anything. There's a lot of things they contribute in, but the media doesnt want to focus on that bc they want to keep the country divided. I agree, Mexico should fix their corruption. Mexicans would LOVE it if that happened and a lot would go back. But until the "regime" isnt thrown over i dont see how that's gonna happen, and of course no one wants to help. About the taxes, what you say is true. Wonder why the media doesnt tell the public they can pay taxes now... and all those deductiosn from their paycheck...they'll never see it, since they're not eligible for medicare... they're basically HELPING pay everyeone else's. Isnt that a great benefit to the US? Low paying jobs and no benefits ...yay!
Stone: Yes im sure we could go back to the way our ancestors lived but guess what? They can choose that option but the government wont let go of all them. Property and annual taxes that have to be paid, are one good example that you do have to have a job and money. As far as crossing illegaly dont you think that if mexicans could get in legaly they would? They're not dumb, but they have to get around it. And why doesnt this country deport all of them back? They already know, what's keeping them from doing so if there wasnt any benefit? Dont give me the "oh there's just too many of them and it would take years", please. If we can go to war and try or DO take over countries, why cant we fix this? Wars involve more than 12 million ppl....it involves an entire country! And no i dont want anything bad for the US. I just want these politicians to ACTUALLY DO something instead of feeding americans the "oh we need to build a wall, we'll deport them" and the illegals " yeah there will be an amnesty". They use the "tell them what they wanna hear so they can be quiet" technique and dont do anything. Either deport them (like they say they are) or give them amnest (like they said) but DO SOMETHING or they look even more like hypocrites.
EDIT II: YES my answer is still posted and yes people stone is talking to me.
With that aside, even if you have the national guard & more border patrol, every minute one illegal tries to cross the border, out of all those 35% succeed, used to be 45% so congratulations but still illegals cross and succeed. Like i said, when someone is in "survival mode" they'll do whatever they need to. Like u said they havent given an amnesty...but they also havent deported them all, so they're not pleasing you or them, because this government needs them. Its pure logic. Whether you want to accept that or not its up to you, but there's a reason why the 12 million arent being deported. Im glad you are a man of reason and righteousness but clearly this government isnt. Maybe we need people like you who will actually do something, deporting them or giving amnesty.
Just like a famous reporter said "I dare this country to do deport them all within a month and see what happens". Anyway, tell yourself whatever makes you feel better but remember that the government controls the border patrol and national guard... and they have all the power in the world to do as they wish....

No. Illegal aliens are not forced to violate our federal laws. They are not forced to come here. They made the choice.
If it it were viewed as slavery, then it is self-imposed. They can end it by leaving.

Funny how only 2 ppl have mentioned that half the reason why we're in this mess is our fault... but no one else has.... hmmm..." So, by your logic, the bank is at fault for being a bank and having money, not the bank robber.
The reality is: Criminals commit crimes, they are to blame for committing the crimes they commit. They made the choice.
If illegal aliens were not here to hire, then employers would not hire them.

I agree, it is slavery. A great many illegals come here, wanting a better life, but end up getting exploited. Many are forced to work long hour for a few dollars (or less). And forced to endure horrible conditions. And we are creating the demand for this. Plus the government does nothing to stop the flow of illegals entering the country. And they could. Easily.
Edit: Hey Jim, I'm doing good. Watching a little news, enjoying my Y/A time. :) Hugs to you. How are you?

It's hardly the "new form of slavery". It's been around for a while. And the U.S isn't the only country to blame for this absurd "practice". Ironically every other country is involved in this too. But who wants to bring that up!
edit: WiLd MinX/ExOtIC BeLlYdAnCeR (change your avatar name all you want your answer is still posted) - You say "I'd like to see all these anti-illegal immigration ppl in the shoes of illegals. I'm sure they'd think differently. When your kids are starving, there's no jobs and if there is, no one wants to hire you, you'll do ANYTHING to support your family. No offense to your answer, but I must point out that we antis think outside of the box when it comes to feeding our families. And we can do this legally without leaving the country or breaking laws. Nor do we need a boss or employer to be this creative. Fishing, Crabbing, Clamming, Hunting... etc... Rabbit/Hare, or Duck, and Geese, Bear, Deer, Elk have limits of some sort. While squirrels, possums, beavers, raccoons, river rats (nutrias), do not. And Fishing, Crabbing, and Clamming have only a daily limit. Am I to believe that they do not have these very opportunities within their own countries? Or are they that unimaginative to take on the tasks? As for no weapons (rifles and guns).. Even handmade Bows, arrows, and fish netting's and traps would do. That is if they know what they are doing.
And for every illegal that does have a job, there is an U.S citizen or legal resident that doesn't have one to feed their family. Is that what you'd much rather have and see here in the U.S.? Because that's exactly what's taking place and shape too in this country. The U.S. isn't exclusive to not having starving families either.
Edit 2: I can't help that the politicians have sat on their backsides doing nothing in the past. But they have certainly heard the voices of the people who do not want any form of amnesty given this time around for the illegals. Because even their reform that they would love passed is full of more loopholes and will not stop the illegals from coming. The only thing that is forcing them to self deport and stop coming is that our economy sucks big time at the moment. That there are 3,000 more border guards and the National Guards stationed at the border. And everytime the illegals are cuaght at the border, they are deported. Perhaps this is the only good thing on our side to rid the U.S. of them. It's our politicians who say that they can't deport them all, while I know that they can. And most of us don't care how long it takes them to rid the U.S. of them. Especially if they claim we'll be in Iraq for years.

No. I prefer not to spend $20 for a pint of strawberries. Frankly, I don't believe there is any immigration problem. The jobs they take are those which no American would take. Or should take. If you lose your job to an illegal, that just means you were marginally employable to begin with! Imigration, like terrorism and gay marriage are smokescreens to hide the neo-con agenda. They will continue to bleed this country dry and then take off to their compounds in the mountains of Peru.

It sure is true and there are lots of pro-amnesty losers here. They have been attacking me all night. Keep putting out the truth to let everyone know out there about the illegal alien pests that keep coming across our border.

Yes I agree they are a new from of slavery and the politicians know about it. Is interesting when somebody goes to a legislative building to bring these concerns to our senators and what they are doing is yawning as per I saw one time...

what is happening to the immigrants is wrong because they don't have as many chooses offered to them as we do. but they still get to live ware they wont and work and still have some what better life then they had in there home land. but i don't think its even close to slavery. they still have rights. and the law will still protect them. so no i don't think its a form of slavery.
