Planning vacation days in Hawaii...?

We are going to Hawaii for 10 days! The first 6 days will be spent in Maui. This leaves us with 4 whole days, and our flight will depart from Oahu.

I need an opinion...

Would we best benefit from spending all 4 days in Oahu?

Would it even be worth it to break it up and take 2 days at Kauai (or Big Island) and then 2 in Oahu?

Just curious if it's silly to try to get something out of 2 days here and 2 days there.

Thanks!

Update:

I appreciate info about the island of Kauai...but I really just need opinions on whether I will get anything out of doing 2 days at one island and 2 at another.

Or just take all 4 days on Oahu?

Update 2:

Or maybe we just need more days in Maui. Either way, we will be flying out of Oahu on day 10, back to LA.

So far, it's 10 days: 6 in maui; 4 in Oahu.

Don't island hop anymore than you already are. Maui and Oahu are plenty! There is enough to see and do on both islands to not get bored or feel like you need to go somewhere else. Personally, I would choose Oahu and Kauai or Oahu and the Big Island, but that's just me. Lots of people love Maui -- it's just not my favorite island.

Kauai is a place for kicking back, you don't want to get settle in and then the next day or two pack up and leave. Besides, you'll get enough kicking back on Maui. The only reason I see for going to Kauai after Maui is to hike or paddle/kayak the Na Pali Coast. You'd be going from relaxed in Maui to even more relaxed on Kauai. The Big Island is too big for 2 days. Unless you absolutely want to see Kilauea Volcano.

If you're manic, or are used to moving around a lot (if you've back packed Europe for 3 months you'll know what I mean), then why not? But, it's a pain and a hassle to pack, go to the airport, fly, pick up your check in bags, get your rent a car, check in to the hotel, un pack. this could take up 4-6 hours of your day easily, do you want that? You're on vacation, settle in and relax. You might find 4 days is not enough for Oahu.

The combinations Maui-Kauai or Maui-Big Island won't give you much variety. The combination Maui-Oahu will.

I live on the big island, and I am partial to it, but bouncing back and forth, and dealing with settling in and renting a car in two days is rough. I would stay the four days on Oahu. However, you could always stay four days on Big island! Told you I was partial. Anyway hope you enjoy your vacation. Aloha

Kauai is the most scenic island. The north shore is some of the coolest land on earth, think of lush jungle like terrain, hikes into secluded waterfalls. South shore , Poipu beach, is more popular, but head north.
