Giants will have to trade away alot. One big bat will not do it, as Barry Bonds proved. They will need several good hitters to join their team. I'm a Yankees fan, if they want to trade lil Timmy there for Matsui I'm all for it.

The Giants don't need to trade for anything. Their value is in their pitching right now. Having Zito, Cain, Lincecum and Lowry fill out a nice starting rotation. Having a solid pitching staff if far more important than hitting, so keep it as is and build your offense around upcoming talent and through free agency in 2009 & 2010.
The Giants will most likely be the last place team in the NL West and trading one of their highly talented young pitchers for a power-hitter won't change anything for this year.
To be successful, the Giants have got to completely turn over the infield. Rich Aurilia, Vizquel and Ray Durham are all past their prime and the giants need to be bring up their prospects soon to replace these guys soon.
BTW... You can't trade for Garrett Anderson. He's a 10-5 guy and would most likely veto any trade offer. Especially one that would take him from a first place team to a last place team. And Zito has a no trade clause.

Hey, if Eugenio Velez can go 4-4 with a triple 3/4 of the time we don't need a power hitter. Maybe a decent hitter with a more than occasional power. I think if Richie Sexson left Seattle and came to San Francisco and played first he would do alright. The Giants could also deal Jonathan Sanchez and another prospect for a power hitter.
Eventually, the Giants will bring up Angel Villalona. He is a 17 year old who is Miguel Cabrera size and is ranked 33 in the top prospects list. He is projected to be an elite power hitter in the majors and I hope that happens. If he comes to play third, Eugenio Velez will play second, Dan Ortmeier will play first, Schierholtz in Right, Lewis in Center. Left, Short, and Catcher will be positions of weakness come 2010, 2011.

Fair trade but there is no way to tell right now. Both players are inconsisent through out their careers and they only had one good season. If this year was Melky's breakout season then the Giants benefit. If Sanchez regains his 2009 form, then the Royals benefit. The minor league pitcher the Royals got in the trade doesn't seem to have much potential. Ryan Verdugo just got promoted to Double A last season at age 24. From the looks of it, he wouldn't make it far and if he does, he will only be a relief guy or a 5th starter, maybe at best 4th starter. He has dominated Single A but has struggled in Double A. This trade is a risk both teams took and it's too early to see which team benefits more.

I don't know how to answer this one really, because for one I disagree with your statement about the Angels pitching staff. I think they have one of the stronger rotations in baseball. Secondly, the only possible star power I foresee for Giants is in Tim Lincecum and Noah Lowry, otherwise the pitching is awful, especially Zito, that was the Giants first mistake. Batting...tell me if you owned a MLB team who you would take from them? Bonds is gone, Feliz is in Philly, so you have no HR hitters. Molina mustered up a team high 81 RBI's, oh boy!!! And finally Randy Winn is the only player at. 300 avg. the next closest was .276. This is the worst team in the game of baseball to me. I will not give them more than 65 wins this season. They need more than a power hitter, but they don't have the current roster to get power hitters. RR

Id have to agree with Pat W. Tis true, the Giants need a Bat but even that wont promise anything. Not only does Zito have a no trade clause, nobody would want to take on that contract. Therefore Lowry would be a prime canidate for trade bait. They can also trade a guy like Roberts which i believe they have already attempted to do. Its going to take time to rebuild so trading away a pitcher like Cain or Lincecum wouldnt be a great idea right now. Be Patient Giants fans

The only thing I've disliked about the Giants for some time is they have too many leadoff and 2 hole hitters. Maybe trade Dave Roberts and someone else for a power hitter.

It's very possible that the Giants will have the worst record in either league this season. Outside of Rowand, the only real talent, San Francisco has next to nothing even remotely imitating a power guy. Their defense is on par with last season when they led the division in errors. Their bullpen is weak and their starters have all had a terrible Spring. They are a comedy of bloopers and blunders. Getting Joe Crede, with his career .259 batting average, will only prove to make matters worse.
It'll be a fun year for sure!

The Giants should trade for a power hitter.

The Giants need three big hitters really, and if they don't trade Cain or Lincecum, they have no way of even getting 1.

The Giants aren't going to seriously contend for a spot in the playoffs this year so they don't need to get a power hitter yet. They need to keep their young pitching staff together so that they can contend in a few years.
