Is the israeli Demona nuclear reactor a disaster waiting to happen?

Folks I am really worried about this

http://www.ynet.co.il/english/articles/0,7340,L-34...

OK I know that israel is a mostly desert but don't you think that keeping a live nuclear reactor just a bunch of people, prohibiting any one to inspect that 50 year old plutonium death trap?

Quote, from the above link:

"The large quantity of nuclear waste collected in the last decades may cause a wide-scale disaster whose effect would reach way beyond the Negev region in case of a mishap or earthquake.

Should there be a nuclear leak, it may poison our water sources and soil for hundreds and thousands of years. The reactor is old and safety measures are unknown to us. Even a mini-Chernobyl disaster as a result of human error or the reactor’s age could make Israel unfit for human life."

What do you think?

Update:

I mean I would worry even visiting as a tourist too!

It seems that you made the Israelis really angry, dear Asker.

I can feel your human concern about life, any life on this here planet.

You are one brave person dude.

Note please that for that reason only I had to cancel my family vacation to Israel a couple of years ago.

I am afraid of dangers that I cannot see, smell or hear.

I always visit "green" countries, (no nukes).

    Cheers!

I only recently learned of the earthquake risk which is high for that entire region, but of greater concern is the pervasive mood with the jewish population of Palestine that any "threat" - any indication of a serious possibility of restructuring the government away from the zionist conception - should be regarded as the equivalent of "annihilation" and responded to by blowing off enough nuclear bombs and missiles to destroy the atmosphere and end life on this planet. This is a common notion - what is called "the Sampson Option" and is even celebrated in jewish popular music. It is very much a main current of their thought patterns. When you consider how fanatical zionism is by definition and juxtapose that with the fact they they possess the world's sixth largest depository of nuclear weapons - free of inspection or international controls, thanks to U.S. protection in the U.N. - and we have not only a recipe for disaster but possibly the extinction of all life. Their arsenal should be seized and disbanded without further ado. I consider the status quo to represent an extremely dangerous situation.

Every nuclear reactor has the possibility of a melt down. And I doubt that a country with cutting edge technology would neglect a nuclear energy reactor. When they feel that it is necessay to decomission it, I am sure they will do so. I am quite suprised that you are worried about Israel though. Usually you spew hate about them. Well, it's nice to see you concerned for Israel's safety for once.

as much as i like the prospect of home grown power and independence from fossil fuels, i think every nuclear reactor is a disaster waiting to happen. when i drive by one (which i do, occasionally, when driving in pennsylvania) I get the shakes.

  • Funny how your present an article from a ersatz israeli newspaper and the zionists race to defame you.

They should change the name from "The State of Israel" to "The State of Denial."

Such warning have been going on for several years. Here in Australia we had a documentary on it. People living around the reactor have been getting cancers. Zion's reaction has been to sit on their hands. They don't want to admit that they have broken international laws; they don't have the knowledge to make repairs; and they don't have the will to close it down.

It seems that their secret weapon has backfired.

We have a saying here; "little boys shouldn't play with matches."

Vanono the Israeli nuclear scientists said Demona nuclear reactor a disaster waiting to happen and he was jailed for years and government would not allow him to leave the country.

I believe any nuclear reactor is very dangerous and it is not something to be like a "secret" hidden from the technical inspecting organizations.

It should be dismantled as soon as possible as a risk to the entire human race. JFK was right about the zionists geting the bomb. They don't even permit international inspections.

If they want it inspected properly they would have call some Jews to do it.

How sweet of you to worry about Israel!!

I am touched that you are concerned enough to try prevent tourism and (unsuccessfully) arouse panic.
